Bookings now accepted for smart #5

With so much attention focussed on the Proton e.MAS 5 which will be launched in the near future, many may have forgotten that PRO-NET also has another ‘5’ model to be launched. It’s the #5 from smart, the fully electric brand also marketed by PROTON’s subsidiary which handles New Energy Vehicle business.

The #5 (call it hashtag 5) is an all-new model in the modern smart range developed after Geely and Mercedes-Benz revitalised the brand by forming a joint venture company. The new range started with the #1, followed by the #3, both of which are available in Malaysia.

Contemporary Adventurer
Now comes the bigger #5 which was previewed at the Malaysia Auto Show 2025 in May and has been doing the rounds of showrooms around the country since then. Malaysia will be one of the first markets in the world to launch the new EV which has the theme of ‘Contemporary Adventurer’.

Premium and BRABUS versions
As with the #1 and #3, there are Premium and BRABUS versions. The Premium has rear-wheel drive only and its 100 kWh battery is claimed to be good for a range of 590 kms. The BRABUS version, with all-wheel drive, can go from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 3.8 seconds and is believed to have a range of up to 540 kms.

Prices have still not been announced but as the flagship model, expect the #5 to have a higher price than the #1 and #3 which have a range (officially listed) from RM169,000 to RM255,000.

RM2,000 booking fee
Bookings for the #5 are now accepted at all smart dealerships nationwide. A fee of RM2,000 is required to make the booking which can also be done via the Hello smart App or the smart Malaysia website.
