Assembly of the GWM ORA 5 Hi2 HEV is now underway at the EP Manufacturing Bhd. (EPMB) plant in Melaka and the first units have been completed, with the launch to take place later this month.
The compact hybrid SUV arrives as the brand celebrates its fourth anniversary in this market with the theme ‘GROW WITH MALAYSIA: Together We Grow. Together We Go.’

The ORA 5 Hi2 HEV has a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and electric motor which, working together, can produce a combined 223 ps/476 Nm. Though the powertrain is electrified and there is a battery the driver does not have to worry about finding a charging station at all.
No manual charging needed
As the vehicle moves and when necessary, the engine also acts as a generator to recharge the battery. Thus the range is as far as the fuel available in the tank, and with the electric motor doing part of the work, fuel consumption is claimed to be around 23 kms/litre which means the potential range on a full tank of petrol could 1,100 kms or more.
In fact, the model has a listing in the Guinness World Records for the lowest fuel consumption driving to all directly administered municipalities in China by a hybrid electric-powered production SUV, recording 26.7 kms/litre over 3,004 kms.

International awards
The ORA 5 has been recognised internationally with the Design of the Year award at the 2025 London Design Awards, making it the first production car in the world to receive this distinction. It also received the Best Interior Design Award (Family Car) at TADA 2026, recognising its interior design that combines comfort, intelligent functionality and practicality to meet the everyday needs of modern families.
Bookings for the ORA 5 Hi2 HEV are accepted nationwide, and the estimated selling price will be below RM115,000. As usual, early buyers will be rewarded for their support.

Meeting commitment
GWM supports the local assembly policies of the Malaysian government and has continued to expand its locally-assembled range which includes the HAVAL H6 HEV and WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV.
Over 10,000 GWM vehicles have been assembled locally to date, with over 1,100 units exported to Thailand and Indonesia. This also supports the government’s aim of making Malaysia a regional production hub.
