Tesla Experience Centre opens in Johor Bahru

Quick look:

  • Tesla continues to expand its presence in Malaysia with a fourth Experience Centre in Johor Bahru.
  • At Tesla Experience Centres, visitors can view and test-drive the latest EV models as well as make purchases.

Tesla started off with a business model that was a departure from the traditional one which had dealerships managing retail sales and aftersales. Instead, it chose to maintain control over the retail end by selling vehicles directly to customers through its website and having a small number of stores which it calls ‘Tesla Experience Centres’.

Although the business model has had some controversy in some countries (notably in America), it has been used virtually all over the world, including Malaysia. With Tesla being one of the top EV companies in the world after just 18 years, it would suggest that the business model works very well.

Thus, when the company entered Malaysia in 2024, it did not appoint any dealers and had just one outlet of its own in Cyberjaya handling sales and aftersales. Customers who purchased their new EVs had to go there to collect it, or pay delivery charges to have the vehicle transported to their home.
