Tesla is now in East Malaysia

Although Tesla officially entered Malaysia in July 2023, it is only in 2026 that the EV brand is in East Malaysia. Expanding into Sarawak, specifically Kuching, Tesla delivered its first cars recently.

The move is intended to facilitate the transition to sustainable mobility across the region, providing Sarawakian owners with localized access to the brand’s proprietary software ecosystem.

To support this expansion, Tesla Malaysia will help develop the charging infrastructure in Sarawak to provide the necessary foundation for long-distance travel and daily use. Its charging network in Peninsular Malaysia currently consists of 18 DC Supercharging stations and 17 AC Destination Charging stations with charging points for up to 150 individual EVs.

In 2025, the Model Y was Tesla’s bestseller in Malaysia, with 4,401 units registered. Together with the Model 3 (2,880 units), the brand accounted for 16% of all fully electric vehicles sold and ranked third overall.
