BMW has had a presence in the Malaysian automotive landscape for over 60 years, beginning with the entrepreneurial efforts of Asia Motors and then growing in popularity with Continental Motors and BMW Concessionaires. By the end of the 1980s, Auto Bavaria (a unit of Sime Motors) had taken over the franchise and accelerated the business to the next level.
Auto Bavaria’s efforts to grow the market for the German brand were so successful that BMW AG decided it was time to become directly involved in its Malaysian business in 2003. It set up BMW Group Malaysia and from then on, made Malaysia an important regional hub for many of its activities in the Asia-Pacific area.
Heritage in Motion
Though having ascended to the position of No. 1 premium automotive brand in Malaysia, BMW Group Malaysia has not forgotten its brand heritage globally as well as locally. Today, the company continues to drive forward with Heritage in Motion which represents its rich history and deep-rooted capabilities that have built expertise and experience over time to develop the ecosystem for the Premium Ownership Experience.
From June 13 – 15 at the Sentul Depot in Kuala Lumpur, BMW Group Malaysia will present My BMW World as an immersive showcase of the company’s historical journey, tracing key milestones in innovation, customer care, sustainability, motorsports, and local footprint. This celebration of heritage sets the stage for the future powered by rich history, product innovation, and progress.
