Although there is no more duty-exemption, Tesla Malaysia will maintain its 2025 tax-free prices for all its models.

The EV brand has entered East Malaysia with a pop-up showroom at a shopping mall in Kuching, Sarawak.
With the expiry of duty-exemption for EVs imported in CBU (completely built-up) form on December 31, 2025, some have wondered about the future of those brands which have not mentioned any plans for local assembly which will allow another 2 years of duty-exemption.
No local assembly plans
While automakers such as Chery, BYD and ZEEKR have announced plans to start local assembly in 2026 and 2027, others such as Tesla have remained silent. In fact, it was stated some time back that there are no plans by Tesla regarding local assembly although many Malaysians had assumed it was part of the conditions for being allowed immediate access into the market. Tesla has however fulfilled its other commitments that include setting up its charging network.
