New colour for Proton e.MAS 5 EV

Quick look

  • Currently, the bestselling EV in Malaysia in 2026, the Proton e.MAS 5 gets Jade Green as a new colour.

  • PRO-NET will introduce the new colour as well as display the GMA platform at the Penang Autoshow this week.

With the positive reception towards the additional Emerald Green choice for the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, PRO-NET (PROTON’s New Energy Vehicle subsidiary) is also giving the e.MAS 5 a new green colour option known as Jade Green.

Penangites and those in the northern region will be the first to get to see it as the new colour will be officially introduced on an e.MAS 5 on display at the Penang Autoshow 2026 which starts tomorrow.

To date, over 8,000 units of the EV – priced from RM56,800 – have been delivered nationwide in just 4 months, and it is currently the top-selling fully electric vehicle in the market.

GMA platform
Visitors to the PROTON stand will see a full range of the latest models as well as the first appearance of the Global Modular Architecture (GMA) platform in the northern region. It is this platform that provides the foundation for the e.MAS models and a full-size model will show what is normally out of sight under the bodywork.

“As Malaysia’s No.1 EV brand, we are driving wider EV adoption by making the technology more accessible and easier to understand. The new Jade Green Proton e.MAS 5 strengthens our line-up with greater choice for customers, while the display of the GMA platform in Northern Malaysia enables more Malaysians to appreciate EV technology firsthand and clearly understand how it differs from conventional combustion engine vehicles,” said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET.

After the Klang Valley, the northern region – Penang, in particular – has shown a high rate of EV adoption. According to PRO-NET, Proton e.MAS models accounted for 64.2% of the segment during the first quarter of this year.

This is largely attributed to the regional housing landscape as a high concentration of landed properties facilitates easier installation of home charging stations, which remains the primary method for recharging EVs.

There has also been a steady increase in the public charging network which has encouraged more people to switch to ‘the electric life’.

Golden Test Drive Campaign
Visitors to the Penang Autoshow 2026 who test-drive the Proton e.MAS 5, Proton e.MAS 7, and Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV will also be eligible to participate in the Proton e.MAS Golden Test Drive Campaign.

The nationwide campaign (also at Proton e.MAS dealerships) runs until May 17, 2026 and offers weekly rewards with a total of 30 x 3g gold bars to be given away over 5 weeks.

Additionally, as a Grand Finale, bigger finale, there are grand prizes consisting of one 5-day/4-night trip for 2 to Australia’s Gold Mine Tour, and a 5-gm gold bar for 3 winners. Terms and conditions to be eligible for the rewards are available at the showrooms.
