Michelin Malaysia introduces energy versions of Primacy 5 and Pilot Sport 5

Quick look

  • With the increasing number of EVs, demand for tyres designed for fully-electric vehicles is growing and Michelin offers two new choices.

  • Important for EV tyres are high-torque handling, low noise and energy savings.

Michelin Malaysia has launched 2 new tyres – the Primacy 5 energy and the Pilot Sport 5 energy. The ‘energy’ in their names indicates suitability for EVs, a growing segment in the Malaysian market. Both tyres emphasize energy efficiency and performance longevity.

“The Malaysian automotive landscape is changing rapidly, with EV adoption accelerating, SUVs dominating the roads, and drivers expecting more from every component of their vehicle. The tyre ranges from Michelin are our direct response to that shift. With the MICHELIN Primacy 5 energy and MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 energy, we are ensuring that as the market evolves, Malaysian drivers are not left behind,” said Florentin Odenwald, Managing Director of Michelin Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei.

Primacy 5 energy
The Primacy 5 energy carries a triple-A EU label rating, which covers external noise, wet grip, and rolling resistance. It features the Silent Rib Gen-3 and Piano Acoustic Tuning technologies to reduce noise levels throughout the life of the tyre.

For safety, the MaxTouch construction distributes the forces of acceleration and braking evenly to maintain wet braking performance as the tread wears down.

Pilot Sport 5 energy
The Pilot Sport 5 energy is the brand’s first sport-oriented tyre to secure a double-A rating for wet grip and rolling resistance. It utilizes a Bi-Compound structure, incorporating a Grip Adaptive compound in the centre for handling and an Energy Passive compound on the shoulders to improve fuel economy or battery range.

Dynamic Response technology is also included to ensure steering control is accurately transmitted to the road surface.

Both tyre ranges incorporate Slim Belt technology, which uses thinner top belts to reduce raw material usage while maintaining strength, thereby optimizing energy efficiency. The tyres have Premium Touch 360-degree sidewall technology which creates a matte black velvet-effect texture.

Priced between RM614 and RM1,624, the Primacy 5 energy is available in 19 sizes for 18 to 21-inch wheels, while the Pilot Sport 5 energy is offered in 17 sizes for the same wheel diameters.
