Malaysia’s Taj Izrin Aiman wins GAZOO Racing GT Cup Asia 2024

Taj Izrin Aiman from Malaysia emerged as the GAZOO Racing (GR) GT Cup Asia 2024 Individual Champion with a total of 65 points, making him the Asia Champion of the e-motorsports event run by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Asia. The victory will see him take part in the GR GT Global Finals in Amsterdam in December as the Asian representative.

In second place, Andika Rama from Indonesia, the 2023 Individual Champion, showed relentless determination, finishing with 57 points, and will partner Aiman at the Global Finals. Fellow Indonesian, Moreno Pratama, in his first time placing in the Asia finals, claimed third place with 48 points The consistent performance by Rama and his fellow teammates gave Indonesia the Country Championship title.

The GR GT Cup Asia 2024 saw 15 of the region’s top e-motorsports racers competing against each other in Kuala Lumpur at the Connexion Conference and Event Centre in Bangsar South. The competitors from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand were the 3 best racers in the country finals.

The 3 races used Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation5 and PlayStation4, with players racing around iconic tracks like Sardegna Windmills, Nurburgring, and Fuji International Speedway.

Different livery designs were created for the cars of each country team, while the racing cars used were the GR Yaris (Sardegna Windmills circuit), GR Corolla Morizo Edition ’22 (Nurburgring), and GR010 Hybrid ’21 (Fuji International Speedway). While the Nurburgring and Fuji Speedway circuits were hard tarmac, the Sardegna Windmills circuit was the GR GT Asia Cup’s first-ever rally track. The different surface conditions further tested the skills of the sim racers.

Taj Izrin Aiman has 4 titles in the Malaysian round and being the Individual Champion in the finals this year makes him the Asian representative for the GR GT Global Finals in Amsterdam in December (along with second-placed Andika Rama from Indonesia).

The top three individuals and teams each received a cash prize of US$8,000, US$4,500 and US$3,000, respectively. Special awards were also given in recognition of drivers’ exceptional performances, with Aiman taking Driver of the Day, the Philippines’ Russel Reyes taking home Best Racecraft Driver and Rama winning Fastest Race Pace.
