Quick look:
- Chery Malaysia has added the iCAUR 03 to its range of models assembled locally, delivering on its promise to localise production.
- The iCAUR EV is assembled at its own plant in Shah Alam, Selangor which assembles JAECOO SUVs for the Malaysian market and for export.
While there’s currently much debate about government policies and conditions relating to foreign brands doing business in Malaysia, Chery has been more focussed on delivering on its promises to invest and contribute to the local auto industry.
Local assembly at 2 plants
Right from its entry 3 years ago (disregarding its earlier presence 20 years ago), it already had some models assembled locally at the Sime Motors-owned Inokom plant in Kedah. Then it acquired a factory in Selangor to assemble its JAECOO models, which are also being exported.

Now, the factory located in Shah Alam has also started to assemble the fully electric iCAUR 03 which was launched in September 2025. The model has met with positive response as its retro classic shape is something different from the crossover SUVs of today. In less than a year, over 1,800 iCAUR EVs were delivered.
More vehicles available faster
With growing demand, it only makes sense to assemble locally. This will increase the supply of vehicles so customers don’t have to wait for them to be shipped from China and, of course, it also makes the government happy.

The locally assembled iCAUR 03 iWD is priced from RM129,880 (without insurance, Pen. Msia). The price a package comprising a 7 kW AC Home Charger and complimentary scheduled service for 2 years/45,000 kms, whichever comes first.
