NEM adds Sport version to Suzuki Fronx range, revises price

Quick look:

  • For an extra RM12,000, the Fronx compact SUV with a MHEV powertrain from Suzuki gets sportier looks.
  • NEM has also revised the pricing for the standard version which was launched in November 2025, bringing it down to RM118,888.

Naza Eastern Motors (NEM), which has been handling the Suzuki brand since 2021, has launched the Fronx Sport as an additional variant to the Suzuki Fronx. The new variant comes with an accessory package that gives a sporty, aggressive appearance.

The package visually alters the vehicle’s lower profile with special contrast painting on the front lip and a rear diffuser, while the bumpers have a revised profile as well. To create a more distinct silhouette, there’s a prominent rear spoiler while the roof has black wrap.

The standard wheels have also been replaced with an upgraded combination of 17-inch alloy wheels fitted with Continental UltraContact UC7 tyres (215/50R17).

For added functionality, NEM has also included door visors and a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) covering both the front and rear views.

MHEV DualJet powertrain
Aside from these differences, the technical specifications remain unchanged from the model launched in November 2025. The powertrain is the K15C 1.5-litre 4-cylinder DualJet naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired with an Integrated Starter-Generator (ISG). This provides a mild-hybrid electric set-up which develops 103 ps/138 Nm. Power goes to the front wheels via a trusty 6-speed automatic transmission which includes steering-mounted paddle-shifters for manual gear selection.

Supported by a compact 12V lithium-ion battery pack that assists the engine during acceleration and energizes the idling stop-start system, the vehicle’s 37-litre fuel tank is said to be good for a range of 700 kms or more.

5-star ASEAN NCAP rating
Safety standards match the high specifications established at launch, with ASEAN NCAP having given the Fronx a full 5-star rating. You may have read that the assessment by ANCAP (the safety organisation for Australia and New Zealand) had given only 1 star due to a rear passenger seatbelt retractor failing during the crash test.

The Fronx sold in Malaysia comes from Indonesia and was rated 5 stars when ASEAN NCAP tested it. The other test done by ANCAP in Australia got only 1 star but that unit was imported from the Suzuki factory in India.

It should be noted that the model sold in Australia/New Zealand originates from Suzuki’s plant in India, whereas the one sold in Malaysia comes from the manufacturer’s plant in Indonesia. As such, the suppliers for many of the items are different (due to localisation policies) and the performance of the parts can differ. In this case, the unit tested by ASEAN NCAP did not have the same failure, and it also performed well in other areas, so it was awarded 5 stars. Incidentally, Japan NCAP also awarded the model (imported from India) 4 stars.

The standard Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) package with camera/radar sensors includes adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and a vehicle sway warning system. These active systems are supplemented by high beam assist, hill hold control, 6 airbags, and ISOFIX childseat anchor points in the rear.

Inside, the cabin has a 2-tone layout with a combination of fabric and synthetic leather upholstery. Standard comfort and utility features include a steering column adjustable for both tilt and reach, as well as 60:40 split-folding rear backrests to expand cargo capacity. The infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and there’s a wireless device charging pad.

Revised price
The Fronx Sport is priced from RM130,888 (without insurance), which is lower than the Fronx that was launched last year. However, NEM has also revised the pricing of the standard model to RM118,888, which should draw more attention to this model in the crowded compact SUV market.

The vehicle warranty is 3 years/100,000 kms. While there were concerns about the reliability of hybrid batteries 10 or 15 years ago, the technology has improved and they are generally lasting. Furthermore, it is self-charging so issues such as improper charging shortening the service life are unlikely. In any case, for extra peace of mind, the hybrid battery has a separate warranty of 5 years or maximum of 100,000 kms.
