Retention of leading position in non-national segment is noteworthy in the light of intense competition with more players in 2025.
With a total of 14,284 vehicles delivered in December, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) ended 2025 on a high note as the total volume for the year reached 102,417 units. It was the fourth consecutive year that the company – a joint venture between UMW and Toyota Motor Corporation since 1982 – has been above the 100,000-unit level.
Why Toyota remains No.1
Toyota is the first non-national brand and UMWT is the only non-national car company in Malaysia to sell more than 100,000 vehicles for 4 years in a row. The achievement highlights Toyota’s long-standing reputation as a reliable and popular brand among Malaysian car-buyers. It’s a reputation that has been built through decades of offering reliable products as well as top-notch aftersales services, not to mention the strong resale values of many models.

The achievement is also noteworthy in the light of 2025 having seen market competition intensifying with more players and many new products being launched.
“Achieving over 100,000 vehicle sales for 4 consecutive years is a meaningful milestone for Toyota and a celebration of the trust Malaysians place in us,” said Datuk Ravindran K, President of UMW Toyota Motor. “Sustaining this level of performance in a highly competitive and fast-changing market reflects the strength of our long-term strategy, our investment in local capabilities, and our deep understanding of how Malaysians use their vehicles. Guided by our ‘Best in Town’ philosophy and a ‘Customer First’ mindset, we remain committed to delivering mobility solutions that are practical, inclusive, and reliable, ensuring Toyota continues to serve Malaysians today and for generations to come.”

The Multipathway Approach
While the transition to electric mobility is underway, UMWT continues applying Toyota’s Multi-Pathway Approach which acknowledges that mobility needs vary between areas, usage patterns, and infrastructure readiness. Thus UMWT offers a well-rounded portfolio that currently focusses on hybrid electric models as well as models with efficient internal combustion engines.
Building on the momentum of 2025, UMWT will continue expanding its network, strengthening service excellence, and introduce initiatives aligned with evolving customer expectations. After the brand closed the year on a historic high, Toyota remains firmly focused on shaping Malaysia’s mobility future through solutions that are trusted, inclusive, and built to last.
