Test-drive an electrified Proton e.MAS and you could win a gold bar!

Quick look:

  • Test-drive a Proton e.MAS electrified model between now and May 17, 2026 at any Proton e.MAS showroom in Malaysia and you could win a gold bar.

  • Experience one or all three models – e.MAS 5, e.MAS 7 and e.MAS 7 PHEV – and see why going electric will be the right move.

When PRO-NET (PROTON’s New Energy Technology subsidiary) was established in August 2022, it began with a strong effort to help Malaysians understand electric mobility. It was going to be a significant transition for motorists, in line with the government’s direction to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Educating and addressing issues
Back then, just asking people to consider an EV was challenging as there were many issues relating to use and ownership. Through various campaigns, PRO-NET provided information about EVs and at the same time, helped to develop the charging network which was a major factor in many motorists’ minds.

By the time its first EV – the e.MAS 7 – was launched, Malaysians had a much better idea of what EVs are all about and what issues are valid and what have already been addressed and no longer affect their motoring.

The positive response to the e.MAS 7, which dominated sales in 2025, showed that PRO-NET had done a good job of preparing people for electric mobility. It was not surprising that the smaller brother, the e.MAS 5, also received equally strong and positive response, especially with its affordable price.

PHEV – best of both worlds
Understanding that not everyone may be ready to go fully electric, PRO-NET has come out with another model that gives the best of both worlds – the e.MAS 7 PHEV. This has a plug-in hybrid electric drivetrain which has both a small petrol engine and an electric motor. It offers the benefits of a fully electric vehicle with the assurance of an engine as back-up. And with its low fuel consumption, it is possible to go up to 1,000+ kms on a full tank.

Now that the electrified models are in showrooms, PRO-NET invites the public to get a person experience with them. This initiative on direct user experience is a strategic response to the psychological hurdles those who have an interest in EVs  face when considering a move away from internal combustion engine models.

“Test driving remains one of the most important moments for first-time EV users because it turns curiosity into confidence,” said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET. “With recent fuel price increases, particularly for diesel, and ongoing economic uncertainties, now is an ideal time for Malaysians to consider making the switch to electrified mobility.”

30 gold bars in 30 days
The Proton e.MAS Golden Test Drive Campaign, now ongoing and ending on May 17, 2026, will provide hands-on experiences with the energy-efficient vehicles from Proton e.MAS.

All Proton e.MAS dealerships (the largest EV network in Malaysia) are taking part in the campaign. Each week, a 3-gm gold bar will be given away to lucky participants as part of the rewards (30 gold bars in 30 days) for taking a test-drive. Terms and conditions to be eligible for this reward are available at the showrooms.

Additionally, as a Grand Finale, bigger finale, there are grand prizes consisting of one 5-day/4-night trip for 2 to Australia’s Gold Mine Tour, and a 5-gm gold bar for 3 winners.

Besides having test-drives at the showrooms around the country, there will also be roadshows in Penang (Queensbay Mall: April 15 – 19); Melaka (AEON Melaka: May 19 – 24); and Pahang (East Coast Mall: June 24 – 28). Visitors can get more information and experience the three models at these locations.
