Record number of visitors at Malaysia Auto Show 2025

The Malaysia Auto Show 2025 (MAS 2025) was the most successful edition yet, with a record-breaking 294,062 visitors (31% more than 2024) having attended between May 9 and 15. The exhibitors reported total bookings of 3,194 vehicles valued at RM1.72 billion, with another 1,512 prospective trade-ins, along with an impressive 18,824 sales leads. Almost 11,000 test-drives were taken, on the long road course as well as over an off-road track.

Organized by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics, and IoT Institute (MARii) with support from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), MAS 2025 underscored Malaysia’s growing leadership in next-generation mobility as the nation holds the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.

Held at the spacious Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) site outside Kuala Lumpur, MAS 2025 this year had over 200 exhibitors who displayed more than 500 vehicles over 50,000 square metres.

There were many new models, including EVs, on display at visitors could take them for test-drives around the MAEPS site.

48 vehicle launches
With the theme ‘Shifting the Future’, this year’s event saw even more new electrified models being previewed. In fact, 48 vehicles were launched during the event with others to go on sale later in the year. Electrified vehicles (full EVs, PHEVs, and HEVs) made up 51% of all models displayed, highlighting the shift to greener mobility.

Perodua and Proton – the two Malaysia automakers – previewed EV models which will be launched later this year.

In a further stride towards next-generation mobility, MAS 2025 also saw the official launch of the Voluntary NxGV Labelling Scheme, aimed at certifying vehicles that meet Malaysia’s high standards for sustainability, safety, and innovation.

ASEAN Unity Drive 2025
A major regional milestone which took place during the event was the ASEAN Unity Drive 2025, a groundbreaking 10,432-km convoy of vehicles comprising Proton’s fully electric e.MAS 7 and its X series SUVs across 9 ASEAN nations. The feat has been officially recognised by the ASEAN Records.

The drive championed the harmonisation of EV standards and cross-border interoperability. More importantly, it delivered compelling proof that seamless, long-distance EV travel across member countries is now possible as charging infrastructures in each country have grown substantially over the past few years. This signals ASEAN’s growing readiness for a unified green mobility future.

Consumer-centric event
Reaffirming its unique role as a government-led, consumer-centric event, MAS 2025 focused on building public awareness around sustainability, safety, and future transport technologies. Special theme days, Education Day, Women’s Day, and Green Day, offers hands-on learning to thousands of families, students, and professionals.

The inaugural NxGV Challenge 2025, co-organised by MARii (Malaysia Automotive Robotics & IoT Institute) and SAE Malaysia, and supported by Perodua, was one of the activities during the autoshow.

The event also previewed future mobility which will be in the air with ‘flying cars’ like this one by eHANG, a Chinese company.

Adding to the future-forward appeal of the show were Urban Air Mobility demonstrations, which hinted at Malaysia’s vision of a mobility landscape that included electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) transport options. Meanwhile, ADaPTIV, developed through a strategic partnership between MARii and PETRONAS, showed real-time predictive intelligence for vehicles, improving performance and reliability.

“The success of Malaysia Autoshow 2025 is a huge step towards achieving that objective, and towards strengthening the region’s next-gen mobility supply chain. While the Autoshow has become a platform to drive investment, collaboration, and innovation across ASEAN’s value chain, MITI is also committed to ensuring that our SMEs and workforce are future-ready for the opportunities afforded by a more resilient regional e-mobility industry,” said MITI minister, Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

”As Southeast Asia’s second-largest automotive market and the Chair of ASEAN this year, Malaysia is in a strategic position to lead the regional push towards green and next-generation vehicle technologies. This is very much in line with Malaysia’s focus on the development of guidelines to support ASEAN’s EV roadmap as one of our deliverables in our ASEAN Chairmanship year,” he added.

Next autoshow in 2027
Following the agreement between MARii and the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), the two organisations will hold their motorshows in alternate years. Thus, in 2026, it will be the MAA’S turn with its KL International Mobility Show and the Malaysia Auto Show will return in 2027. It has been hinted that there may be a new setting to offer an even better experience for visitors and industry players. Though MAEPS is ideal in terms of space and parking facilities, it is somewhat far from the city.
