AI – Artificial Intelligence – is being used in many businesses, automating processes with intelligence and increasing efficiency and accuracy. PUSPAKOM, the vehicle inspection company, is now using AI in some of its operations to automate inspections and detect defects on heavy commercial vehicles which require periodic mandatory inspections.
Locally developed technology
The company recently unveiled Malaysia’s first artificial intelligence (AI) powered undercarriage inspection technology at the Jelajah Malaysia Digital 2026 showcase. Developed in collaboration with local technology firm Keymag Sdn. Bhd., the system utilizes intelligent image analysis that can detect structural damage, corrosion, oil leaks, axle faults, and braking system issues.

Use of AI drastically reduces undercarriage inspection times from approximately 10 minutes to just one minute — representing an efficiency gain of nearly 90%. Currently deployed via PUSPAKOM’s Mobile Truck Service for heavy commercial vehicles, the system aims to minimize operational downtime for transport fleets and improve overall service capacity.
Human inspectors still decide
Despite the automation, PUSPAKOM emphasizes that the technology acts as a decision-support mechanism rather than a replacement for human inspectors. Final pass or fail determinations remain under the strict purview of qualified Vehicle Examiners.

Additionally, the system generates standardized digital records for each evaluation, improving inspection transparency and offering objective verification in the event of disputed findings.
Reducing wait times
Speaking at the launch, PUSPAKOM CEO Mahmood Razak Bahman noted that streamlining inspection times directly benefits commercial operators by increasing daily productivity and reducing wait times.
“At PUSPAKOM, we are leveraging AI not simply to introduce new technology, but to create meaningful benefits for our customers, road-users and the wider community. By reducing inspection time and improving operational efficiency, AI delivers tangible value to commercial vehicle drivers whose livelihoods depend on productivity,” he said.
“For example, reducing the time required for an AI-powered undercarriage inspection from 10 minutes to about one minute gives a lorry driver approximately 10 additional minutes that can be spent on making deliveries, serving customers or simply getting home sooner. In an industry where time is money, this is invaluable. At the same time, these efficiency gains allow us to inspect more vehicles each hour, increasing service capacity, reducing waiting times and contributing to a safer and more efficient transportation ecosystem for all Malaysians,” he added.
Looking ahead, PUSPAKOM plans to expand its AI inspection framework over the next 24 months. This includes the addition of ASTRA, an above-carriage inspection system being developed alongside Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, as well as AI-driven tyre inspection capabilities.
As part of the Jelajah Malaysia Digital program, PUSPAKOM is offering 40 complimentary Private Vehicle Inspection slots to the public to promote voluntary vehicle maintenance and road safety awareness.
