Malaysians celebrated the country’s 66th year of independence in different ways and for Isuzu D-MAX owners, it was with a Merdeka Convoy 66. Some 600 owners of the popular pick-up truck around the country responded to an invitation by Isuzu Malaysia to have the parades.
Largest simultaneous D-MAX parade
The company, in collaboration with its authorised dealerships, organised parades in 29 locations which took place from 9.15 am on the morning of August 31. The Merdeka Convoy 66 was the largest ever simultaneous parade of D-MAX in the country.
The vehicles had commemorative decals and flags while each participant received an exclusive event t-shirt.
Celebrating the special bond
Isuzu Malaysia’s Chief Operating Officer, Kenkichi Sogo, who flagged off the convoy in Kuala Lumpur, said that the event allowed dealers to engage with owners yet be able to celebrate the special bond that Malaysians enjoy.
“While our aim was to create a meaningful Merdeka celebration this year among our dealers and D-MAX owners, we also wanted to celebrate this sense of unity that is so unique and apparent in Malaysia with a unified activity that transcends borders,” said Mr. Sogo.
Other activities for participants
After the parade, participants of the Merdeka Convoy 66 enjoyed a day out with fellow owners with various programmes organized for them by their respective dealerships. Some of the activities included a visit to a durian farm, a short off-roading course, an afternoon at the beach, rainforest resort and a shopping mall.
Feedback from owners was positive with many voicing their interest in participating further in such group activities among D-MAX owners to foster closer friendships and to network with owners.
