With PROTON now making its EVs – starting with the e.MAS 7 – at its manufacturing complex in Tg. Malim, Perak, the area which is part of the Automotive High-Tech Valley can be considered an EV hub in Malaysia.
So it’s only natural that PRO-NET (Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd – PROTON’S subsidiary dedicated to New Energy Vehicles) would lead the way in the electrification journey by setting up its first DC Charging Station at the administration building of the complex. Unlike previous facilities operated through third-party providers, this is PROTON’s first standalone charging infrastructure, managed by PRO-NET.
Own charging network
The move demonstrates PROTON’s capability to run its own charging network, independent of existing charge point operators, ensuring greater control over affordability, accessibility, and user experience.

The station has 4 bays with two 120 kW DC chargers that can handle up to 4 EVs simultaneously. It is available to EV owners, regardless of the vehicle brand they have. By making the facility inclusive, PRO-NET aims to encourage the switch to EVs while supporting the wider development of Malaysia’s charging network.
“This charging hub is a significant step forward for us, not just as a facility but as part of our commitment to build a stronger EV ecosystem for Malaysia. By keeping the service affordable and simple to use, we hope to make EV adoption more appealing for everyone. Tanjung Malim is where PRO-NET’s story began, so it is fitting for us to also start this new chapter here,” said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET.
Affordable, and app-free charging
The new charging station is also PRO-NET’s first standalone facility in its charging infrastructure. It serves as a proof-of-concept for app-free charging, allowing customers to simply scan a QR code and access a web-based interface to start charging and make payment.
Proton e.MAS and smart owners will continue to enjoy the option of using the e.MAS app and Hello smart app, both of which are fully integrated with their vehicle’s system as well.
50% discount on charging rate
In line with its mission to make EV ownership more practical and affordable, PROTON has set the charging rate at 80 sen per kWh, one of the lowest in the country. For the whole of October 2025, all users will enjoy a 50% discount on the rate, bringing it down to just 40 sen per kWh.
