If you’re a Toyota Land Cruiser fan or spends weekends driving off-road, here’s a ‘tool-like’ accessory you’ll want. It’s a special edition of the Casio G-Shock MUDMAN GW-9500 created for a collaboration with Team Land Cruiser (TLC) | Toyota Auto Body.
This special edition watch is based on the rugged MUDMAN GW-9500 launched in 2023. The design of the GW-9500TLC-1 is heavily influenced by the team’s rallycar, the Land Cruiser 300 GR Sport. The watch features a striking black and red colour scheme that evokes the aggressive and functional image of the racing machine.
High-performance machine image
The metal bezel is treated with a black ion plating, which is then complemented by the vibrant red accents of Toyota’s high-performance GR brand, including a decorative line on the button at 3 o’clock and on the side surfaces. This combination creates a look that is both durable and dynamic, perfectly capturing the essence of a high-performance racing vehicle.
The band of the watch is equally impressive, designed to reflect the harsh desert landscape of the Dakar Rally. It features a sand-coloured base printed with a distinctive black splatter pattern, just like the tracks left by speeding rallycars as they storm over the dunes. To complete the rugged image, the guard for the front button also features a brown ion plating, adding another layer of visual interest and durability to the timepiece.
As with other special editions, there are the official Team Land Cruiser logos on the band and the case back, signifying its status as an official watch actually used in the rally. As a unique touch, illuminating the high-brightness full-auto LED backlight reveals a special TLC graphic on the duplex LCD display.
For the most demanding conditions
Beyond its rugged design, the GW-9500TLC-1 is built to perform in the most demanding environments. It has a solid, multi-component exterior with a mud-resistant structure. The front button and three direct sensor buttons are designed to keep mud and water out, protected by cylindrical stainless-steel parts and equipped with gasket fittings to prevent contamination. This makes the watch ideal for use in harsh outdoor conditions where dust, dirt, and water are constant challenges.
The GW-9500TLC-1 also features a practical duplex LCD with a slimmer design, even while being dual-layer, to minimise bulk. The top layer provides a clear graphical compass display, while the bottom layer shows large measurement and time displays, ensuring enhanced readability even in stressful situations.
This innovative display is housed within a Carbon Core Guard structure, which provides superior shock resistance while keeping the watch relatively light and comfortable to wear.
Triple Sensor Technology
As a high-performance outdoor watch, the GW-9500TLC-1 comes equipped with Casio’s Triple Sensor technology, providing essential information for navigation and environmental awareness. This includes a digital compass, barometer/altimeter, and thermometer, allowing users to track changes in altitude, air pressure, and temperature.
The watch also features Multiband 6 radio control for accurate timekeeping across the globe. Tough Solar power, which converts light from both sunlight and fluorescent lamps into energy, ensuring a reliable power supply without the need for frequent battery changes.
Demonstrating sustainability, key resin components of the case and band are made with bio-based resin, produced using renewable organic resources. This helps to reduce the environmental impact of the watch’s production.
The GW-9500TLC-1 has a recommended retail price of RM2,295 and is available on the official Casio online store and selected stores in Malaysia.
