Locally assembled in Malaysia and priced from RM154,800, the Serena e-POWER offers the convenience of an ICE model but is driven only by an electric motor.
Edaran Tan Chong Motor’s second Nissan e-POWER model – the all-new Serena e-POWER – is officially launched today in 5 versions priced from RM154,800 to RM179,800. Early Bird buyers get a RM5,000 rebate and RM8,000 worth of accessories.

Assembled in Malaysia
As with previous generations, it is assembled in Malaysia at Tan Chong’s own plant in Serendah, north Selangor. This is the sixth generation of the all-new MPV which uses the e-POWER drivetrain developed by Nissan.

Proven electrified powertrain
Already in use in over 1.6 million vehicles worldwide, the e-POWER system gives the benefits of an EV but the convenience of an ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicle. Already available in the KICKS SUV, the e-POWER drivetrain operates only on electric power.

Because the Serena is a larger MPV, a larger petrol engine is used instead of the 1.2-litre engine for the KICKS. This is the HR14DDe 1.4-litre 3-cylinder direct injection petrol engine which still has a small displacement that contributes to less fuel being used. Fuel consumption can be as good as 18.5 kms/litre, with a potential range of over 950 kms.
While the e-POWER drivetrain is also a hybrid electric drivetrain, it is unique in that only the electric motor drives the vehicle. This gives it all the characteristics of a fully electric vehicle with up to 315 Nm of torque available almost instantaneously. As a preview drive showed, the acceleration is stronger and the MPV runs more smoothly and quieter than any previous generation.
Manual recharging not needed
Drivers will welcome the fact that the e-POWER system is self-charging as the vehicle runs. The lithium-ion battery is topped up when necessary by the engine acting as a generator. Additionally, some energy is also recovered during braking and added to the battery. On long journeys, the driver won’t have to worry about finding a charging station and can go as far as the amount of fuel in the tank. And when it’s time to refuel, a petrol station won’t be hard to find.

The cabin is still the same spacious space that the Serena has been known for, accessible through powered sliding doors on either side. The rear door is still a 2-section design where you can open the top half alone, rather than lifting up the entire door.

The Premium Highway Star, being the top version, has materials of high quality while there’s a long list of standard equipment and features. The Serena is also available in X and X Plus versions, giving customers additional choices to suit their budget.
