SAIC Motor Malaysia, which handles the MG brand, has officially launched the all-new locally assembled ZS which is available with 2 powertrain choices – ZS 1.5 Turbo (from RM103,900) and ZS Hybrid+ (from RM109,900), both prices for registration in Peninsular Malaysia, excluding insurance.
For a limited time, customers who book either version will be entitled to early-bird rewards worth RM3,000 and free scheduled maintenance during the first 5 years.
Until December 31, 2026, besides a special financing package from two selected banks, ZS Hybrid+ buyers will also receive an extra RM3,000 year-end reward. The first 3,000 owners will also get an upgraded warranty package with a 7-year/unlimited-mileage coverage.
Two powertrain choices
Both versions use a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine featuring direct fuel injection and an all-aluminium construction. The unit in the ZS 1.5 Turbo has a turbocharger and produces 170 ps/275 Nm, and an 8-speed CVT. The engine in the ZS Hybrid+ is not turbocharged but is paired with a 100 kW electric and produces a maximum system output of 215 ps/465 Nm with a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission.
Claimed consumption for the ZS 1.5 Turbo is up to 14.5 kms/litre giving the 55-litre fuel tank a potential range of up to 800 kms. The ZS Hybrid+, with the assistance given by the electric motor, has better fuel economy, claimed to be up to 21.3 kms/litre and a range of up to 870 kms.
Its battery pack has a 1.83 kWh capacity and uses nickel-manganese-cobalt chemistry which is less common in B-segment hybrid electric SUVs. The battery has a separate 8-year/160,000 km warranty.
