2-millionth BMW EV completed

BMW doesn’t say when it started counting from, but it’s just announced that the BMW Group (which includes MINI) has completed its 2 millionth electric vehicle. The milestone EV was a blue i5 M60 xDrive sedan was built at Plant Dingolfing in Germany and will go to a customer in Spain.

BMW began making electrically-powered cars as far back as 1972, though they were prototypes. It was only in 2013 that the first EV went on sale and that was the i3, which was produced for 9 years with a total volume of around 250,000 units.

With the expansion of its fully electric range came the creation of the BMW i sub-brand introduced in 2011 for vehicles offering electric mobility. This has been joined with the Neue Klasse range that takes the German brand further into the electric future.
