Impressive result for the all-Malaysian model developed from scratch within 28 months.
Simultaneously with the launch of Perodua’s first EV – the QV-E – ASEAN NCAP has also published its assessment of the model which has rated the maximum score of 5 stars.
The QV-E was put through ASEAN NCAP’s various tests, including crash tests, at its centre in Melaka. The 5-star rating was based on the overall score of 88.36 points, made up of 4 assessment categories. These are Adult Occupant Protection (36.63 points), Child Occupant Protection (16.73 points), Safety Assist (20.00 points) and Motorcyclist Safety (15.00 points).

Apart from the intelligently engineered structure which provided good protection from frontal and side impacts, the standard availability of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) – which Perodua calls Smart Assist – contributed to the high score.

These include Autonomous Emergency Braking City & Inter-Urban, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Detection for both the driver and passenger-side of the vehicle and Automatic High Beam management.

Child Presence Detection
ASEAN NCAP also commended Perodua for being the first Malaysian automaker to provide Child Presence Detection using direct-sensing technology. This significant achievement directly addresses the increasing concern surrounding child safety and the risk of children being forgotten in vehicles, as often reported in the media.

Scoring the highest star rating is impressive considering that the QV-E is Perodua’s first EV – a vehicle type it has never manufactured or offered before. The development time for the RM800 million project was just 28 months – very fast by industry standards and even more amazing considering it started from scratch.
Making electric mobility accessible
“ASEAN NCAP is privileged to have conducted the safety assessment of Perodua’s groundbreaking first Electric Vehicle, the QV-E. This vehicle is a testament to Malaysian ingenuity, developed locally in line with the Government’s push for domestic EV manufacturing. Perodua has successfully delivered on its objective: making electric mobility accessible to the broader Malaysian public,” said the organization which is part of MIROS (Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research).
