BMW Group Malaysia continues to contribute to the development of the country’s automotive industry with a partnership with the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC) which advances Malaysia’s technical and vocational education ecosystem. The collaboration also marks another milestone in BMW Group Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to nurturing local talent and building a sustainable, future-ready automotive ecosystem.
The partnership will see the establishment of the BMW NextGT programme from 2026. It is set to equip a new generation of automotive technicians with world-class skills and expertise to meet the evolving demands of the automotive industry – particularly within the fast-advancing landscape of Electric Vehicle technology.

“Today the automotive industry is undergoing its most transformative era, and with it comes the need for a workforce that can drive this innovation forward. Our collaboration with STDC through the BMW NextGT programme is built on the foundation of belief that investing in education and technical development is key to shaping the Future of Mobility in Malaysia. By empowering trainers and students with the skills and knowledge aligned with BMW’s global standards, we are cultivating the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition towards the future of the automotive industry here,” said Benjamin Nagel, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia.

Training the trainers
As part of the collaboration, automotive technical trainers from STDC will undergo extensive, hands-on training developed under the BMW Technician Qualification Framework. The programme will immerse participants in comprehensive technical knowledge, with specialised modules including current modern automotive technologies and concepts.

Upon completion, these trainers will deliver this expertise to qualified vocational students enrolled in the BMW NextGT programme, enabling them to graduate with cutting-edge, industry-standard knowledge and skills relevant to both conventional and electrified vehicle technologies.
Dealer partners also involved
Auto Bavaria, Millennium Welt, and Quill Automobiles will also be involved in the programme as initial dealer partners, with plans to extend the initiative to additional BMW dealers from 2027 onwards.

Speaking at the signing ceremony today, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Bin Shari, Chief Minister of Selangor said: “We are honoured by the trust and confidence that BMW Group Malaysia has placed in the Selangor State Government through this collaboration with the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC). The BMW NextGT programme reflects Selangor’s commitment to cultivate the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition towards a sustainable, future mobility. We sincerely appreciate BMW Group Malaysia’s confidence in nurturing local talent. This initiative demonstrates the power of partnership between government and industry in advancing technical and vocational excellence, while empowering our youth with world-class skills and knowledge to position Selangor as a leading hub for advanced automotive technology and sustainable innovation in the region.”
