The OMODA | JAECOO brand appeared in Malaysia in July 2024 and over the past 14 months, it has been one of the fastest-growing brands. This year, the brand (part of Chery’s portfolio) reached 5th overall position in sales within the first 6 months of 2025 and remains in the upper ranks of the Top 10 brands.
Impressive ascent
The ascent of OMODA ! JAECOO is quite impressive, given the fact that it has been in the market for a relatively short time. And acceptance of its SUV models, starting with the J7, has seen cumulative sales reach 20,000 units to date.

This milestone is also part of a wider achievement for Chery Group, which has surpassed 5 million vehicles sold in export markets, with over 600,000 contributed by OMODA I JAECOO vehicles,” said OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia Acting Sales Director, Clement Yeo.

The 20,000th owner
The owner of the 20,000th vehicle is Khirdzir Ali, who took delivery of his JAECOO J7 PHEV at a special event to celebrate the milestone. Having tried the SUV earlier and being impressed with its performance, he had no hesitation about getting one. “Its impressive fuel efficiency will help reduce running costs in my daily driving,” he said at the handover ceremony recently.
The current OMODA | JAECOO range in the Malaysian market consists of the J7, J7 PHEV, J8 and OMODA C9. All the models are assembled at the Chery Corporate Malaysia factory in Shah Alam, Selangor and some of the production is also exported to neighbouring countries.
