Chery Malaysia continues to support Malaysian sports

Chery Malaysia continues to support Malaysian sports with a contribution of RM50,000 to Kumpulan Wang Amanah Sukan Negara (National Sports Trust Fund) during the launch of the new Chery TIGGO Cross last night. The contribution was received by Hannah Yeoh, Minister of Youth and Sports.

Additionally, from sales of each unit of the TIGGO Cross during 2025, the company will make a contribution to KWASN, a grant-based fund under the ministry. This fund supports the organisation of national and international-level tournaments as well as athlete participation, either through official sports associations or on an individual basis.

This is not the first time Chery Malaysia is showing support for the development of the national sports industry and local athletes. Last year, it offered to reward Malaysian athletes who brought home medals from the Olympic Games with TIGGO Cross SUVs. Badminton stars Aaron Chia, Soh Wooi Yik and Lee Zii Jia were the three recipients of the vehicles.

Good corporate citizen
Though a relatively new company which h was established in July 2023, Chery Malaysia has been quick to show itself to be a good corporate citizen which is not here just to sell its cars but also contribute to the growth of the auto industry.

While some companies have mentioned that they intend to make Malaysia their regional hub, Chery has been pushing ahead not just with words but concrete actions. At the start, it said that it will make Malaysia the regional Hub for right-hand drive vehicles for its Southeast Asian and Oceania markets and it has already started doing that by exporting JAECOO SUVs assembled in Malaysia to the Philippines.

While some cmpanies have been talking about exporting from Malaysia, Chery has actually done so and is already exporting JAECOO SUVs assembled in Selangor to the Philippines.

It started its operation with an initial investment of RM170 million but by 2026 will have spent another RM2.2 billion to establish the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park to be located in the Beringin High-Tech Auto Valley in Lembah Beringin in north Selangor. It will be the automaker’s 11th production base outside China and the first in Southeast Asia.

The Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park in Malaysia will join 10 other production bases the automaker has outside China.

Besides a new factory that will build up to 300,000 vehicles per annum over time, the industrial park will also have R&D centres and a cluster of suppliers. “We are confident that once completed it will create high-value job opportunities, house a cutting-edge R&D centre, expand vehicle exports to neighbouring countries, strengthen Selangor’s role through a robust supply chain, and solidify Malaysia’s position as a leading automotive hub in ASEAN,” said Chery International President, Zhang Guibing.
