The Renault 4 is one of the French brand’s iconic models with over 8 million units sold in 20 countries. It arrived in the French market in 1961 as the country’s economy was steadily growing, allowing many to buy a new car.
33 years after the last Renault 4 was built, the model designation returns on a concept model called the Savane 4×4. The Savane name was used in the 1950s and was associated with exploration; 40 years later, Renault also used the name for a version of the R4.
Freedom with zero emissions
The 21st century Savane continues with the image of freedom – and enjoying it with zero emissions from the vehicle. Using the AmpR Small platform for a B-segment electric vehicle, it has a fully electric drivetrain with motors at the front and rear for 4-wheel drive.
Its bodywork is finished in Jade Green, a new colour whose chic appearance is underlined by the gloss black bumpers and wheelarches. The roof features a printed fabric, based on pixel variations, for a concealment effect.
The conventional stops on the front and rear bumpers are replaced by new 3D-printed parts with shock-absorbing properties. A specific ‘4Savane’ logo can be seen on the side of the vehicle, while the tailgate states its identity as a 4×4.
Sophisticated interior
The interior has a sophisticated design, with seats in Deep Brown refined textile (TEP) fabric. At the top of the backrest, a quilted pattern in tonal hues adds a graphic touch. A houndstooth pattern provides a stylish finish for the backrest trim and lateral reinforcements.
The dashboard is also clad in Deep Brown refined textile. Top-stitching in tonal hues runs in a horizontal line, through to the driver and passenger door panels. A backlit 4Savane logo on the dashboard strip gives the showcar its signature.
For ‘gentlemen explorers’
“True to the spirit of exploration of the Renault 4 Savane from the 1960s, the Renault 4 Savane 4×4 Concept showcar pushes the adventurous side of the Renault 4 E-Tech electric to the maximum. Its increased ground clearance and widened tracks are combined with a permanently active all-wheel drive system to allow it to tackle the most rugged terrains. With its unique Jade Green colour combined with Glossy Black elements and the Deep Brown interior, it adds a chic spirit worthy of ‘gentlemen explorers’ eager for limitless journeys,” said Sandeep Bhambra, Chief Designer Advanced, Ampere & Renault.
