Quick look:
- History repeats itself as BYD Sime Motors collects 1,000 orders for latest ATTO 3 within first 10 days of launch, the same time-frame it took for 1,000 orders when the ATTO 3 was originally launched.
- Malaysia is the first market in Asia-Pacific region to launch the new ATTO 3 with a more powerful rear-wheel drive variant joining the original front-wheel drive variant.
The BYD ATTO 3 was among the early EVs to be launched in the Malaysian market right after the government announced duty-exemptions for fully electric vehicles for a few years. Sime Motors had concluded a collaboration with BYD to represent the brand in Malaysia and distribute BYD vehicles.
More than 12,000 units in 4 years
The ATTO 3 was launched at the end of 2022 and within the first 10 days, it drew over 1,000 orders. Since then, the BYD range has widened from a single model to a wider range at different price points. According to distribution data, cumulative delivery numbers of the model place it as the highest volume among fully electric models in the Malaysia market with more than 12,000 units to date over 4 years.

With the updated 2026 model, the same strong response has been shown by the public – 10 days after its official launch in Malaysia, the bookings received reached 1,000 units.

“Seeing such a positive response within days of the launch is an incredible milestone that reflects the evolving expectations of Malaysian motorists,” said Jacob Ma, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia. “Today’s drivers are increasingly seeking vehicles that seamlessly combine technology, convenience and everyday usability, and the 2026 BYD ATTO 3 delivers on this.”
Substantial improvements in 2026 model
The latest ATTO 3 has more than just cosmetic enhancements and introduces substantial mechanical and technological updates over its predecessor.

The revised line-up now includes a more powerful rear-wheel drive variant complementing the front-wheel drive variant that has been sold all this while. The larger capacity Blade battery (developed by BYD) also contributes to the range being extended up to 600 kms. while upgraded electrical architecture can accept DC power supply up to 220 kW for shorter recharging times.
These revisions alter the operating profile of the crossover SUV, addressing consumer demand for broader operational parameters and reduced charging intervals during long-distance travel.
Interior revisions
Inside the cabin, BYD has made revisions to design details that characterized the early versions of the vehicle. The cockpit features an enlarged 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, supplemented by a 15.6-inch central infotainment screen that serves as the primary interface for vehicle functions and navigation.

The physical layout has been simplified by the replacement of the original aircraft-style gear selector with a clean, column-mounted shifter. Storage utility has also been revised, introducing a 101-litre front luggage compartment under the bonnet alongside an expanded rear cargo bay that now has up to 490 litres of volume.

Assured aftersales support
With over 12,000 units of the ATTO 3 now in use all over Malaysia, BYD Sime Motors has grown its aftersales network to ensure that owners get ready support whenever they need it. There are now 25 dedicated aftersales facilities established across the country. This support includes body and paint facilities at strategic locations, along with centralized parts logistics to ensure service centres can quickly obtain required parts.
