Strong start to second half of 2025 for PROTON

PROTON started the second half of the year strongly as the sales volume for the Malaysian automaker for the month of July totalled 13,518 units. This was a 22.1% increase over June sales, taking the cumulative volume for 7 months to 85,764 units.

With this volume, PROTON estimates its market share to be 19.3%, a marginal increase compared to the share for the whole of 2024 which was 18.7%.

New X50 leads
Launched on July 24, the new X50 was an important volume growth driver, with 999 units delivered over the final 7 days of the month. The model ended July with total sales exceeding 2,000 units for the third time in 2025 and closing at 2,068 units.

With total production volume forecast to hit 5,000 units by the end of this month and total bookings closing in on five digits, an even better sales figure is expected in August.

Meanwhile, the X90 and S70 continued their steady sales performance to lead the D-segment SUV and C-segment sedan classes, respectively. The former gained 229 units to its volume in 2025 while the latter continues to outperform expectations with another 1,404 units sold in July to bring its cumulative volume to 10,750 units after 7 months.

Aside from the new X50, the other Proton model to attract considerable social media attention recently is the Saga, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last month. Demand for the white variant of the Hot Wheels collectible, a follow up to the original red, has been strong with fans searching all over for available units at retail outlets nationwide.

A similar scenario played out in Proton showrooms in July as 6,638 units of Proton Saga were sold during the month, by far the best result for the model in 2025. The achievement has pushed cumulative sales to 38,345 units this year, a clear sign that this evergreen model ticks all the right boxes for car buyers who want the best value for their money.

Proton X70 [2024]

The Proton model with the best sales growth this year is the X70. Despite many new competitors entering the market, the X70 has seen 51.7% growth.

“The introduction of the all-new Proton X50 has given the entire range an attention boost and PROTON intends to keep the upward momentum going with more new model introductions and a technology showcase at the Global Automotive and Technology Expo 2025 in the last 5 months of the year,” said Zhang Qiang, Deputy CEO of Proton Edar.

Export sales growing
With the establishment of Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd, PROTON is becoming highly focussed on export sales. This area of business has grown in 2025 with a 44.1% increase in shipments over 7 months. The X50 has overtaken the Saga as the most popular export model now. Of note is the export of the e.MAS 7 EV which is third on the list.
