Record-chasing Volkswagen ID.BUZZ EV passes through Malaysia

Until recently, record-setting vehicles going around the world have all used liquid fuel – petrol or diesel – to run their internal combustion engines. Now there are people attempting to set records with vehicles that run not on liquid fuel but electricity. It’s a sign of the times and how mobility is going electric.

One of the adventurers is Rainer Zietlow who is attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for the most countries visited in a fully electric vehicle. Zietlow is no stranger to intercontinental attempts and has previously set a record (in 2012) with a Volkswagen Touareg, racing from Melbourne to St. Petersburg in the shortest time.

Rainer Zietlow on his first trip through Malaysia in 2012.That year, he drove a Touareg TDI 23,000 kms from Melbourne, Australia to St. Petersburg in Russia in a record time of 17 days and 18 hours.

46 countries in 84 days
This time, with the fully electric ID.BUZZ, he has already travelled through 46 countries in 84 days, covering more than 46,400 kms –  without emitting exhaust emissions. His route has taken him to Malaysia where he made a stop today at the Volkswagen dealership in Glenmarie, Selangor.
