When a new model receives positive response and sales grow quickly, it’s certainly a good thing for the automaker. The popularity of the model is evidence that it ticks all the right boxes for car-buyers and many want to own one.
The latest Proton X50 is a good example – since its launch in July, over 4,000 units have been sold and it was the bestselling SUV in Malaysia last month. With its revised front end appearance, enhanced intelligent features and improvements within, the B-segment market leader has generated strong buzz, especially with younger buyers.

PROTON Edar, the marketing arm of the Malaysian automaker, reports that demand for the X50 has been significant in East Malaysia. While the evergreen Saga and Persona are consistently popular, the new X50 is now the third bestselling Proton model in East Malaysia which accounts for 20.6% of PROTON’s total sales volume in 2025.
The rapid increase in X50 owners in East Malaysia means that there is also going to be high demand for aftersales support – servicing and replacement parts. Should a vehicle be damaged in an accident, parts need to be readily available so the vehicle is not stuck in the service centre for a long period, inconveniencing the owner.
Large regional parts centre
Anticipating greater demand for parts, PROTON has a Regional Parts Centre in Kuching, Sarawak to ensure that parts for the X50 can be delivered within 2 days for urgent orders by service centres. Located in the Bintawa Industrial area, the facility spans approximately 28,000 sq. ft., making it 3 times larger than the previous warehouse, with a 200% increase in capacity. Operating at full capacity, it can hold between 3 and 3.5 months of stocks.
In the past, parts which came from suppliers outside Malaysia had to first go to the central warehouse in Selangor before being despatched the East Malaysia. To speed up the supply, the Parts Centre in Kuching can now receive direct shipments from overseas.
6,000 orders a month
“With growing customer demand in East Malaysia, this Regional Parts Centre is the largest among automotive brands in Kuching. It functions as the main distribution hub for Sarawak and, if necessary, also supports Sabah. Capable of delivering up to 6,000 orders per month, it allows PROTON to meet dealer needs quickly and efficiently clear backlogs for customers,” said Zhang Qiang, Deputy CEO of PROTON Edar.

“Customer satisfaction is always our ultimate goal. While we acknowledge there is more work ahead, every improvement brings us closer to achieving our target. We remain committed to delivering high-quality products, supported by an equally strong aftersales experience,” added Mr. Zhang Qiang.
