PROTON’s PRO-NET subsidiary has launched the brand’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) in three versions, priced from RM109,800 to RM129,800.

The first 5,000 owners will get a RM4,000 rebate and as is PROTON’s usual practice, extras worth up to RM7,500 as rewards for being pioneer owners. If you have a car that’s older than 20 years, you can also trade it in and get a RM4,000 rebate.

The main difference is in the battery capacity which, for the Prime and Premium is 18.4 kWh and for the Premium+, it’s a larger 29.8 kWh. Recharging time at the maximum 60kW DC power (Premium+ only) is within 16 minutes from 30% to 80%.

The e.MAS 7 PHEV has already been shown, in a livestreamed public run, to be able to cover over 1,100 kms without refuelling or recharging. That’s around 23 kms/litre with the 61-litre fuel tank. With an engine also present, you need not worry about recharging the way you would with a fully electric vehicle.

So you get the benefits of an EV – including up to 170 kms running on just electricity (depending on battery level) – without the worries of not being able to find a charging station.
