Proton e.MAS 5 launched in Singapore at S$158,988… RM500,573!

Proton has launched its second fully electric model in Singapore, following the launched of the Proton e.MAS 7 last year. Distributed by the VINCAR Group, the addition is an indication the Malaysian automaker’s broader strategy to expand its  presence in the region.

“Expanding the Proton e.MAS model lineup in Singapore showcasing PROTON’s determination to excel in its export journey and demonstrates the growing confidence in Malaysian automotive products beyond our borders,” said Edmund Lim Meng Thong, CEO of Proton International Corporation.

Mr. Lim said the introduction of the e.MAS 5 follows the encouraging reception received by the e.MAS 7 and positions the Malaysian brand as one that can offer products that combine advanced technology, safety and value to a regional audience.

Over half a million ringgit!
The e.MAS 5 is priced at S$158,988 which is equivalent to RM500,573 at today’s exchange rates. That would shock Malaysians who can get the same model for as low as RM56,800 (without insurance) but the Singapore car market is a very different one from Malaysia’s and all cars are very expensive there due to the CoE (Certificate of Entitlement) requirement.

As part of the initial launch phase, Singaporean buyers are being offered an incentive package. This includes zero downpayment terms, charging credits, a 10-year battery warranty, and a cross-border warranty which covers servicing in both Singapore and Malaysia. Additionally, buyers receive complimentary cross-border data roaming between the two nations alongside specific ownership benefits valued at S$5,000 (RM15,760).

Leadership in NEV segment
Meanwhile in the Malaysian market, the Proton e.MAS brand marketed by PRO-NET (PROTON’s New Energy Vehicle subsidiary) continues to strengthen its leadership. Since January 2026, over 17,600 units of its EV and PHEV models have been registered throughout the country.

The e.MAS 7 PHEV is growing in popularity and in June along, 1,138 units were delivered to customers, bringing total volume after 6 months to 4,074 units. Since its launch in February 2026, the model has surpassed 11,000 bookings, reflecting strong consumer demand for this practical dual-powered mobility solution.

“Demand for the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV has exceeded our expectations and demonstrates that Malaysians are embracing practical electrification solutions that fit their daily lifestyles. This reflects the growing confidence in the Proton e.MAS brand and our commitment to offering innovative mobility solutions for every stage of the electrification journey,” said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET.
