With Malaysia embarking on the road towards electric mobility, it’s only natural that this year’s Merdeka Day parade in Putrajaya would highlight EVs. While the Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry (MITI) organised a convoy of EV models from the many brands in the market, PROTON also had its own fleet of EVs.
The Malaysian automaker’s convoy of 12 units of the e.MAS 7 – the bestselling EV in the country this year – driven by their owners included the e.MAS 5, the next EV model coming in the near future. Although this new model is being showcased in various parts of the country with The e.MAS Tour: MISI 5, its presence in the parade gave the huge number of spectators (and also the even larger TV audience) a first look.

Wrapped in a boldly designed camouflage inspired by Malaysia’s vibrant spirit, courage, and progress since independence in 1957, the e.MAS 5 led the parade as a symbol of unity and forward movement. Scheduled to be launched during the fourth quarter of 2025, the e.MAS 5 will be an affordable EV, allowing more Malaysians to make the switch to the ‘EV life’.
“More than a new car, the Proton e.MAS 5 is a promise that electrification is for every Malaysian. The e.MAS 7 has shown the nation’s readiness for sustainable mobility, and now, the e.MAS 5 will make it even more accessible. To see both models celebrated at the Merdeka Parade is a proud moment, not just for PROTON and PRO-NET, but for Malaysia,” said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET.
The e.MAS Tour: MISI 5
The e.MAS 5 is currently on the e.MAS Tour: MISI 5, bringing the upcoming EV hatchback to communities across Malaysia ahead of its official launch. More than just a preview, the e.MAS Tour: MISI 5 will reflect how the e.MAS 5 fits seamlessly into the lives of everyday Malaysians, from young urban starters juggling work, classes, and social plans, to families handling school runs, errands, and weekend getaways.
