PRO-NET provides Proton e.MAS models to PDRM for evaluation

PRO-NET, the subsidiary of PROTON dedicated to New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), delivered 3 of its electrified vehicles to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for an operational trial to assess the real-world suitability of electric and hybrid electric powertrains for law enforcement fleet operations.

The evaluation fleet comprises all 3 models of the Proton e.MAS brand – the e.MAS 5 Premium, the e.MAS 7 Premium, and e.MAS 7 PHEV Premium Plus. By deploying a mix of fully electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) powertrains, PDRM personnel will be able to assesses varying levels of electrification during everyday duty cycles.

The police force will monitor core operational metrics including drivability, practical cabin and cargo utilization, and charging logistics. To facilitate uninterrupted testing, Gentari is providing complimentary charging services throughout the trial period.

Collecting operational feedback
Transitioning municipal and security fleets to NEV platforms requires a clear understanding of runtime requirements, range management, and infrastructure integration. The data and operational feedback gathered during this trial period are expected to guide future government decisions regarding the viability of electrified models for routine police operations, including crime-prevention patrols.

This trial represents a continuation of a long-standing relationship between the Malaysian automaker and domestic public service sector. As a national automaker, PROTON has historically supplied a significant number of vehicles to the police force as well as various other government agencies across Malaysia, serving as a primary mobility provider for official duties.

As government ministries increasingly explore lower-emission transport alternatives, PRO-NET continues to position its e.MAS range for institutional adoption. Outcome-based trials like the PDRM evaluation will prove critical in determining whether electrified powertrains can match the demanding, heavy-duty operational standards required by various agencies.

Real-world testing
Commenting on the initiative, Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid bin Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON, said: “This evaluation with PDRM is a good opportunity for us to put our e.MAS vehicles into a real-world environment and allow the team to experience them beyond a conventional test drive.”

“With the e.MAS 5, e.MAS 7 and e.MAS 7 PHEV, PDRM can experience different electrified powertrain options and assess how they perform and fit into their operational requirements,” he explained.

“We understand that transitioning to EVs, particularly for a large fleet, involves more than just the vehicles themselves. It is also about understanding daily usage, performance and charging requirements,” he said.
