OMODA | JAECOO is a relatively young brand in Chery’s portfolio, having only come into existence in April 2023. The brand is used for products outside China and is positioned as a premium brand and even has a separate company managing it.
Impressive performance
Since appearing in many markets around the world, OMODA | JAECOO has performed impressively with a positive reception to its crossover SUV models. The brand appeared (initially as just JAECOO) in Malaysia in July 2024 has been one of the fastest-growing brands. This year, the brand (part of Chery’s portfolio) reached as high as 5th overall position in sales within the first 6 months of 2025 and remains in the upper ranks of the Top 10 brands.
The ascent of OMODA ! JAECOO is quite impressive, given the fact that it has been in the market for a relatively short time. And with its growing range, starting with the J7, cumulative sales have passed 20,000 units to date.
What’s next?
With the positive market response so far, OMODA | JAECOO has been working hard on its next generation of products and new technologies that make them better. Some of these future products were shown recently at the Chery Group’s annual International User Summit in China.

OMODA 4
The highlight of the presentation was the upcoming OMODA 4, which will be the entry-level model to the brand. It has a style which is said to depart from conventional ideas. From the sharp front lights and angular side lines to the mechanically detailed rear design, every element combines to create an SUV that looks like no other.

This new small SUV adopts new ‘Cyber Mecha’ design philosophy for exterior as well as interior design. In the cabin, the occupants will enjoy immersive in-car entertainment with personalised customisation enabling users to integrate creativity and preferences.

The 5-seater B-segment crossover transports drivers and passengers into a sci-fi and e-sports-themed interior. From the central display, which uses a 2.5K Snapdragon processor – much like a gaming screen – to the screen in front of the driver, each display has been chosen to encase the front of the cockpit.

The OMODA 4 also has a spaceship-inspired central control centre, where diamond-shaped physical buttons encase the middle of the cockpit. The engine start button is found beneath a red, pilot-style cage, adding visual drama.

Super Hybrid System – H
ONODA | JAECOO also has its own advanced electrified powertrains which use the brand’s Super Hybrid System (SHS). While the J7 SHS and OMODA 9 SHS use a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system, the OMODA 5 will get the SHS-H series-parallel hybrid system. Like the PHEVs, the OMODA 5 will have a range of at least 1,000 kms.

Parking convenience
Also, on display was the larger OMODA 7 equipped with the latest Automatic Parking Assistance (APA) system. Already available with the J8 and OMODA 9 in some markets, the next evolution of the APA system supports over 1000 different parking scenarios. The vehicle can intelligently identify the environment and autonomously complete both entry and exit manoeuvres.
Additionally, there’s also an RPA (Remote Parking Assistance) function allowing drivers to step out of the car and use the key remote to guide the vehicle in or out of tight parking spots with precision.
OMODA | JAECOO in Malaysia
Starting with the J7 just over a year ago, OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has slowly widened its range with the OMODA C9, J7 PHEV and J8. Before the end of the year, two more models – the J5 and OMODA C9 PHEV – will join the range and provide more options to customers.

Chery Malaysia has been one of the newcomers that have come into the market not just to sell cars but also to contribute to further development of the Malaysian automotive industry. It has committed a RM2.2 billion investment to establish an industrial park for manufacturing and other activities in Lembah Beringin, Selangor.

It has also been assembling its models locally at two plants – Inokom in Kedah and its own plant (for OMODA | JAECOO models) in Selangor. And as it plans to make Malaysia its righthand drive production hub in the region, it has also started exporting some production to neighbouring countries.
