For those who have wanted to own the Proton S70 sedan but the RM74,000 pricetag of the lowest-priced 1.5TD version is beyond their budget, the Malaysian automaker now offers the same model for less… as much as RM14,200 less. And there are two versions – Lite and Prime – to choose from too.
Extra RM3,000 rebate
The retail prices of RM59,800 for the Lite and RM62,800 for the Prime are further lowered by RM3,000 if you get one before the end of this year.

For a lower price, you get the same overall dimensions of a C+ segment sedan and platform, along with cabin packaging which allows 3 persons to sit comfortably at the back. However, the i-GT 4-cylinder engine differs in that there is no turbocharger, which is essentially the same unit as that in the latest Saga.
The i-GT engine
The 1.5-litre engine, made in Malaysia at the PROTON factory in Perak, produces 120 ps/150 Nm. Power delivery to the front wheels is through a CVT (instead of the 7-speed DCT used in the S70 1.5 TD) with 3 selectable drive modes.
With the same B‑Segment Modular Architecture (BMA), as well as localised chassis tuning, Proton says that the S70 Lite and Prime will have the high standard of Ride & Handling dynamics which have long been a strong point of the brand.
Generous equipment list
Equipment levels remain competitive relative to the price point. For the extra RM3,000, the Prime has extra items such as LED headlamps with automatic dimming, larger 17-inch wheels, auto-folding doors mirrors, automatic air-conditioning, leatherette seats and leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, and front parking sensors.
Nevertheless, standard tech features are quite generous and include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, remote engine start, an Electric Parking Brake with Auto Brake Hold, all-round auto up/down power windows, and 5 USB ports.
Premium feel
Comfort is enhanced by the premium feel of the cabin with a soft-touch instrument panel and thoughtful interior detailing. NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) of the S70 is also low and class-leading, creating a quieter cabin that makes each journey more enjoyable for the whole family.
Safety equipment is also comprehensive with no less than 6 airbags, front and rear parking sensors and a reverse camera. Driver assistance systems are limited to Blind Spot Detection with Rear Side Radar, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Door Opening Warning, and Rear Collision Warning.
Fast Service
For the S70, Fast Service is available for scheduled basic maintenance, allowing customers who book in advance and remain at the service centre while their car is being serviced with minimal waiting time.
In addition, Proton has introduced 1-Day Service Delivery, with the promise that cars are returned within 24 hours. Should repairs require more than 3 working days, authorised service outlets will provide a relief car along with a one-time complimentary service, inclusive of parts and labour.
