Stellantis is steadily adding export markets for its production at its Kedah plant , with the aim of having 20 countries across the Asia-Pacific region by 2028.

Following Thailand and Cambodia, Taiwan is the next major export destination for the Malaysian-built Peugeot 408.
Since acquiring the NAZA assembly plant in 2021, Stellantis ASEAN has been assembling vehicles not only for the Malaysian market but also exported some of the production to neighbouring countries. Now it adds Taiwan to the list, following earlier entries into the Thai and Cambodian markets.

20 countries by 2028
By 2028, Stellantis ASEAN expects to be exporting vehicles from the plant in Kedah to 20 countries. This would be in line with making the production facility, which will have an export capability up to 280,000 vehicles, a regional production hub.

Significant investment has been made to upgrade the facility and for the export version of the 408, there is an updated 1.6-liter turbocharged PureTech engine that meets Euro 6 standards. This reflects the plant’s ability to support a multi-energy future, undertaking assembly of ICE (internal combustion engine) models as well as vehicles with electrified powertrains. It also produces lefthand drive models as well.
EVs to be assembled soon
A dedicated investment of 5 million euros has already been allocated for the assembly of Leapmotor electric vehicles, beginning with the Leapmotor C10. This diversification ensures that the Malaysian plant remains at the forefront of the global shift toward sustainable mobility.

Regional Parts Hub
Beyond vehicle assembly, Stellantis is further anchoring its presence in the country through the establishment of a Regional Parts Hub. Scheduled to be fully operational this year, this hub will serve 20 countries, enhancing aftersales efficiency and ensuring fast delivery of parts to services centres, minimizing inconvenience for customers.
By integrating manufacturing, R&D, and logistics within Malaysia, Stellantis is effectively turning the ‘Built in ASEAN for ASEAN’ vision into a reality.
