Locally-assembled iCAUR V23 and JAECOO J5 EV prices announced

Chery made a commitment to localise production of its models and has been doing so right from the time it entered the market 3 years ago (its earlier presence was through a local company), all the models it has introduced have been assembled in Malaysia.

It is using the Inokom plant for contract assembly of Chery models, and its own plant in Shah Alam, Selangor which assembles models of the JAECOO and iCAUR brands which are also in the Chery Group. Its locally-assembled models include EVs so Chery has contributed to bringing the technology to Malaysia.

Chery currently assembles its Chery, JAECOO and iCAUR vehicles at two plants in Malaysia – Inokom in Kedah and its own plant in Shah Alam, Selangor. It is now building the RM2.2 billion Chery Smart Industrial Park in northern Selangor which will provide more assembly capacity and include the LEPAS models.

iCAUR V23
The latest to be added to the list of locally-assembled models is the iCAUR V23, which joins the 03 that started rolling off the assembly line in May 2026. iCAUR Malaysia says specifications and quality are unchanged and the original price point of RM132,780.

Both the 03 and V23 are now assembled at the Chery Corporate Malaysia plant in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Local assembly means that the price of the EV can be below RM200,000. The condition that you may have read about where MITI will no longer allow EVs to be sold at less than RM200,000 only applies to those that are imported in CBU (completely built-up) form. It’s a way of ‘persuading’ automakers to assemble their EVs locally.

JAECOO J5 EV
Meanwhile, OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has also announced the estimated price of its next model, the J5 EV, which will be RM125,000. Assembly is underway and those who want to be the first to own one can make a booking at authorised dealers.
