JAECOO J5 coming soon, bookings accepted

Quick look

  • OMODA & JAECOO Malaysia saw a massive 153% sales surge in 2025, delivering 17,849 units.

  • A new entry-level model – the J5 – will soon be available and bookings are now accepted. It has an estimated price of RM120,000.

OMODA & JAECOO is a young brand in the Chery portfolio, but it has been remarkably well accepted in many markets, including Malaysia. In its first year in the local market, it delivered 7,040 SUVs, and then accelerated to 17,849 units in 2025, among the strongest growing brands during the year.

A fast-growing brand since it arrived in 2024.

“Our strong growth in 2025 is a clear signal that OMODA & JAECOO has moved beyond being a newcomer to become a preferred choice for Malaysian drivers,” said Men Lin Bo, Executive Vice-President of Chery Corporate Malaysia. “As we head into 2026, our focus is on solidifying our presence as a local automotive mainstay. We are committed to growing alongside Malaysia, ensuring that our global innovation is paired with a service and dealer network that truly understands the needs of our local community.”

All the JAECOO models are assembled in Malaysia (at Chery’s own plant in Selangor) and some output is also exported to neighbouring countries.
Having started off with the J7 which impressed with its premium looks and features, the range has since expanded to include the J7 PHEV, J8 and OMODA C9, all of which are assembled locally at the company’s own plant in Selangor.

Coming soon – the J5
Soon, the range will be joined by the smaller J5 which was previewed last year. The J5, similar in size to a Proton X50, does not have an electrified powertrain. It is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with the latest-generation intake integrated intercooling and integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head technologies. The output of 147 ps/210 Nm goes to the front wheels via a CVT. Bookings for the J5, which has an estimated price of RM120,000, are now accepted at O & J dealers.
