Honda Civic Type R ‘Ultimate Edition’ for European farewell

Honda is celebrating the legacy of its iconic Civic Type R with an ‘Ultimate Edition’ that marks the end of sales for the model in Europe. Only 40 units (hatchback version) will be available across the region. In the UK, it is priced at £57,905 (about RM332,600).

This special model comes in the trademark Championship White with bespoke red decals across both the bonnet and down the side of the vehicle that match its iconic badge. There is also a painted black roof, plus carbon details throughout, including a wing spoiler and doorstep garnish.

Inside, the carbon theme continues with a centre console panel, while additional lighting calls out select interior features, including the door lining, cupholder, centre console, footwell and underseat illumination. On opening the front doors, there is also a Type R logo projector.

As a special token, owners will receive a unique matching gift box containing a numbered emblem – from one to 40 – and a carbonfibre key ring, alongside custom-made floormats, and a car cover.

Reason for ending the model in Europe
“As we say farewell to a true icon of the Honda automobile line-up in Europe, we thought it was fitting to give the Civic Type R the ultimate send-off with this special edition model offering our customers a unique opportunity to celebrate its legacy. The industry is changing, and our model range is having to evolve with it in accordance with European legislation. However, Type R has always been Honda’s ultimate expression of our passion for driving excitement, and we look forward to celebrating its heritage in the weeks and months ahead,” said Hannah Swift, Head of European Strategy and Product at Honda Motor Europe.

The Civic Type R (EP3) was introduced in Europe in 2001 and also made in the UK, the only market outside Japan where it was made. It was only offered in the hatchback bodystyle and product development for the European model ran its own course till 2017. In that year, the FK8 based on tenth generation Civic was introduced and enabled the model made in the UK to be exported to markets other than in Europe. In total, 5 generations of the Civic Type R were made in the UK.
