GAC, a leading Chinese automaker, has established a strategic partnership with Grab to deploy fully electric vehicles across Southeast Asia, specifically in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand.
This collaboration aligns with GAC’s strategy of ‘Tech-Driven GAC, Advancing Global Reach with a Full-Chain Ecosystem’ which envisions an integrated ecosystem of products, services, and operational capabilities for EVs.

20,000 Aion EVs
The initial batch of 20,000 EVs will consist of the AionY, AionES, and Aion V models which are already on sale in some of the markets. GAC will add features to make the vehicles more suited for professional ride-hailing such as 90-degree door openings and better legroom for rear passengers.

Driver app integrated in cockpit display
The Grab driver app will also be integrated into GAC’s intelligent cockpit system. This integration allows Grab drivers to view route guidance and receive information from Grab – directly on GAC’s larger cockpit display. This includes guidance on high-demand areas and safety alerts for hazardous conditions. By eliminating the need to switch between devices, the drivers can accept trips seamlessly, reduce eyestrain and focus more on road safety.

Grab’s driver-partners will have the option of renting the EVs from Grab’s fleet partners or opting for financing support through Grab’s car ownership schemes. Both companies are also exploring ways to improve aftersales support for Grab’s fleets.

On sale in Malaysia
The GAC Aion Y Plus is also available for purchase in Malaysia from GAC Malaysia. They are distributed by Warisan TC Automotive (WTCA), a subsidiary of the Tan Chong Group which has been operating in the market since 1957.
