BYD’s sales and service network continues to expand nationwide

Quick look

  • To support the increasing population of BYD EVs in Malaysia, BYD Sime Motors is aggressively expanding its network nationwide, with up to 34 aftersales outlets planned following the addition of 9 new service centres.

  • BYD was No.6 in overall sales volume in 2025, an impressive achievement considering the brand only entered the market in late 2022.

With more Malaysians switching to EVs, the need to provide aftersales support is even more important. As a leader among EV brands in Malaysia (and also globally), BYD has been expanding its network as fast as possible since entering the market in 2022.

Its official distributor, BYD Sime Motors, has established a footprint of over 40 showrooms across the country, with up to 34 aftersales outlets planned following the addition of 9 new service centres.

More attention outside Klang Valley
The geographic distribution of these facilities has shifted from a Klang Valley focus towards other regions as interest in EVs grows outside the Klang Valley. In the southern region, new BYD outlets have commenced operations in Muar and Kluang in Johor. On the East Coast, there’s now a facility in Kuala Terengganu to complement established sites in Kuantan and Kota Bharu.

In line with more showroom openings in 2026, BYD Sime Motors will open BYD Mansion along Jalan Macalister in Penang as a flagship outlet. This new facility features the integration of local cultural elements into its design philosophy, creating a premium, unique space. The new design will subsequently be replicated across other showrooms as the company believes every customer touchpoint should reflect both the BYD corporate identity and the communities it serves.

Infrastructure development in the northern region (Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak) has seen the opening of the Sungai Petani and Juru outlets, alongside the Ipoh 3S Centre. The Ipoh facility is notable for housing the city’s first dedicated high-capacity charging hub. This station is equipped with 240 kWh and 180 kWh DC fast chargers, which will be welcome by those on long journeys who need to top-up their batteries.

Outlet at shopping mall
In the central region, the 3S Centre in Sri Hartamas in Kuala Lumpur adopts an integrated retail model by operating within a shopping mall. This facility combines sales, service, and spare parts procurement in a single location.

The strategy aims to align vehicle maintenance with consumer foot traffic, reducing the logistical friction typically associated with traditional industrial-zone service centres. Owners can spend their waiting time at the mall, which many will welcome.

There are also 12 Body & Paint outlets which focus on accident repairs and professional painting services. BYD Sime Motors is keeping tabs on the growth in the BYD EV population and will add more facilities as necessary.

EV-certified technicians
EVs are different from combustion engine vehicles, with different technical skills needed by service personnel. Owners are assured that their EVs will be properly looked after as there is a pool of 80 EV-certified technicians trained at the BYD Academy.

Additionally, there is a centralised parts warehouse that ensures efficient parts availability. For owners, this means shorter waiting times for parts that need to be replaced.

Overall sixth in 2025
Market data for 2025 indicates that the brand delivered 14,407 units, representing a 68% year-on-year increase compared to 2024. The rate of customer acquisition has accelerated significantly; while the first 10,000 units took 20 months to move, the subsequent 10,000 units were delivered in 13 months. This momentum placed the brand as the sixth best-selling automotive brand in Malaysia in 2025. BYD Sime Motors expects to deliver its 30,000th by April 2026.

The cumulative volume has propelled the brand to the No. 4 position among non-national brands in the country, an impressive achievement when it is seen in the context of BYD having been in the market only since the end of 2022.

Giving assurance to EV buyers
With its emphasis on network growth, charging accessibility, technical capability and premium retail environments, BYD Sime Motors is building the infrastructure and service ecosystem required to support the next phase of EV adoption in Malaysia, giving potential buyers the certainty they need to make the transition to electric mobility.
