Sime Motors, which represents several automotive brands, is a major player in the local market. Besides selling new vehicles, Sime Motors also has subsidiaries involved in the used car side of the business such as Sime Darby Auto Selection and since February 2025, EV NEXT, the first dedicated dealership for used EVs in Malaysia. Its Auto Bavaria unit’s Premium Selection also focusses on pre-owned BMW and MINI vehicles.
Now the company brings its long experience in the pre-owned business to BYD Certified, an official certified pre-owned electric vehicle programme. The initiative aims to offer Malaysian buyers a structured and verified pathway into EV ownership.
BYD Certified is managed by BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD vehicles in Malaysia, and the first outlet is located at Sime Darby Auto Selection Glenmarie in Selangor. This is the first BYD Certified outlet in the Asia Pacific region, underscoring Malaysia’s role in BYD’s regional expansion strategy.
Benchmark standards
The BYD Certified programme has clear standards for pre-owned EVs. Every pre-owned EV under the scheme will be subjected to professional technical inspections and verified battery health assessments. The EVs offered will come with warranty coverage, and customers can choose financing solutions and receive assured aftersales support.
To maintain vehicle quality and transparency, the certification process has 5 core criteria:
- Each vehicle must complete a thorough 170-point technical inspection process.
- Qualified vehicles must have a verified odometer reading below 100,000 kms.
- Vehicles must be no older than 4 years, adhering to specific age and mileage parameters such as 1 year under 30,000 kms, 2 years under 60,000 kms, 3 years under 90,000 kms, or 4 years under 100,000 kms.
- Cars must have a certified clean history, guaranteeing no major accident, fire, or flood damage, as well as no odometer tampering. Service record would therefore serve as references.
- Any refurbishment work is carried out exclusively using original BYD parts following factory-approved repair standards.
The programme also has a 5-day buy-back guarantee. Under this provision, customers can receive a full refund at the original purchase price if undisclosed structural, flood, or fire damage is discovered within 5 days of taking delivery.
Owners of BYD Certified EVs can access BYD’s nationwide authorised 3S dealer network for ongoing service and warranty support, just like owners of new BYD EVs. Financing packages tailored for the BYD Certified programme start with interest rates as low as 2.03% per annum (subject to terms and conditions).
Backed by the manufacturer
According to BYD Malaysia Managing Director Jacob Ma, the introduction of BYD Certified aims to address growing consumer demand for quality pre-owned EVs backed by official manufacturer support.

“The programme also provides existing BYD owners with a trusted trade-in platform, making it easier to upgrade within the BYD ecosystem while supporting stronger long-term ownership value,” added Adeline Lew, Managing Director of BYD Sime Motors.
