The TQ Wuling Bingo EV is the first fully electric vehicle to be assembled at the Tan Chong plant in Kuala Lumpur

Utilizing Tan Chong’s decades of manufacturing expertise, the plant is adopting a phased production approach to scale output based on market demand.
With the duty-exemption on EVs imported in CBU (completely built-up) form having ended at the end of December 2025, and the new conditions that require new CBU models to be priced not less than RM250,000, the EV market is likely to undergo a change of pace this year. Where there was a surge of new models at prices below RM200,000, these will now only be available for those which are assembled locally as duty-exemption will be given until the end of 2027.
Foreign automakers like Chery and BMW have already started assembling some EV models locally, while PROTON and Perodua also have models in production now. TQ WULING, the joint venture brand between the Tan Chong Group and SAIC-GM-Wuling’s (SGMW), is also starting to assemble its Bingo EV which will be in showrooms during the first quarter of the year.

Plant with proven track record
The Bingo EV is assembled at the Tan Chong plant in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, which is one of the older plants that has produced vehicles of many different brands. It has a proven automotive manufacturing track record and internationally recognised quality and process standards, including ISO certifications.
The Bingo EV is the first electric vehicle to be assembled at a Tan Chong plant (the group has two, the other in Serendah in the north of Selangor). As part of the initial ramp-up phase, TQ WULING is adopting a phased production approach, with the flexibility to scale up output in line with market demand and the continued growth of Malaysia’s EV segment. This approach ensures stable supply, quality consistency and operational efficiency as local assembly operations mature.

Two versions available
Two versions – Bingo PRO and Bingo MAX – are being assembled, with prices RM67,800 and RM72,800, respectively. Both versions provide a practical driving range, with the Bingo PRO having a claimed range of up to 333 km s and the Bingo MAX up to 410 kms.
Each Bingo EV comes with an 8-year/120,000 km EV battery warranty, 8-year/160,000 km drive motor warranty and 5-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty. At present, there are 6 TQ WULING showrooms in operation, complemented by 7 aftersales centres and more will be added during the year.
“The commencement of local assembly of the TQ WULING Bingo EV represents far more than the launch of a single model. It reflects our long-term investment and confidence in Malaysia as a key market and production base. By combining SGMW’s global EV capabilities with Tan Chong’s decades of strong manufacturing heritage, we are building trust through quality, strengthening the local ecosystem, and laying the foundation for sustainable growth in the years ahead,” said Wan Wei Sun, Head of Business, TQ Manufacturing Sdn Bhd.
