Nissan e-POWER technology was introduced in Japan in 2016 and thereafter, it was progressively introduced in other markets. The impressive fuel-saving potential of the technology, which uses only the electric motor to power the wheels but the battery does not need manual recharging, was demonstrated by distributors all over the world, including Malaysia.
Single tank of fuel
The latest demonstration of the hybrid electric e-POWER system done in Colombia achieved an amazing result which qualified it for a listing in the Guinness World Records. The new record was set by a Nissan Qashqai e-POWER which travelled 1,980 kms on a full tank of fuel.

This is the longest journey completed by a non-plug-in extended-range electrified vehicle SUV without external charging or refuelling.
4-day drive
The drive, held between July 14 and 17 started from the high-altitude capital of Bogota, and the vehicle travelled across varying road conditions and terrain to reach the country’s Caribbean coast. Independent adjudicators from Guinness World Records monitored and verified every phase of the drive prior to certifying the result.
The e-POWER drivetrain in the Qashqai is conceptually similar to that of the KICKS e-POWER sold in Malaysia. It has a petrol engine which functions strictly as a generator, creating electrical energy to charge the lithium-ion battery pack or directly supply power to the electric motor as required.

Unlike conventional parallel hybrid systems where the combustion engine directly turns the wheels under certain conditions, Nissan’s e-POWER system uses only the electric motor to drive the wheels at all times. This gives the best of both worlds – the characteristics and smoothness of an EV but without having to worry about recharging.
Demonstration of efficiency, range consistency
The record-setting run in South America follows similar long-distance validation drives conducted by Nissan in Tasmania and the United Kingdom. According to Nissan Corporate Executive for Product Strategy, Richard Candler, the record demonstrates the efficiency and range consistency of e-POWER technology under real-world operating conditions, serving as an intermediate step toward full electrification for drivers seeking extended driving range without relying on plug-in charging infrastructure.
