Updated Gentari Go mobile app makes recharging EVs more convenient

Quick look:

  • The updated Gentari Go app with AutoCharge at selected nationwide DC fast chargers makes recharging EVs easier.

  • The rewards terms and conditions have distinct points expiry timelines depending on when they were earned, alongside mandatory mobile number verification to safeguard user credit balances.

EV owners can now recharge their vehicle more conveniently with the updated Gentari Go mobile app on smartphones. The significant update introduces an AutoCharge feature which is now available to all application users at selected Gentari Direct Current fast chargers across Malaysia.

Manual steps eliminated
The new AutoCharge function is designed to streamline the public charging process by eliminating manual steps usually required. Following a one-time initial configuration within the app, compatible EVs can link directly to the user’s account. This allows the hardware to automatically authenticate the vehicle upon connection, bypassing the need for physical RFID cards, QR code scanning, or manual app activation.

Fadzrul Ahmad, Gentari’s Chief Green Mobility Officer, notes that the Malaysian EV charging infrastructure is entering a phase where the daily user experience requires optimization alongside the physical expansion of charging stations. He stated that removing repetitive manual activation steps aims to make public charging more intuitive for drivers.

Introductory offer
To mark the introduction of the feature, the company is giving the first 500 users who register their vehicles and complete an initial AutoCharge session RM10 in application credits.

The rollout of AutoCharge will take place progressively across the infrastructure network, with an emphasis on urban centres and major interstate travel corridors. Gentari currently manages an infrastructure of over 600 charging points within Malaysia. Through its regional roaming agreements, the Gentari Go hub provides cross-border access to more than 18,000 charging points across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and India to support long-distance travel.

T&C for rewards points revised
The update also includes a revision to the platform’s loyalty rewards framework and user security settings. Points accumulated by users prior to June 30, 2026 will maintain their validity until 31 December 2026. However, any loyalty points earned from July 1, 2026 onward will carry a fixed validity period of 180 days from the initial date of accumulation.

Standard charging tariffs, membership plans, and active promotional rates remain unaffected by the update, and there are no additional platform fees for using the AutoCharge system.
