2025 Malaysia Car of the Year Book launched

Following the award presentation to the winners of the 2025 Malaysia Car of the Year (MCOTY) at Menara MITI in Kuala Lumpur, the official book for the event was launched at a ceremony at the ZEEKR Sunway Space in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

The venue was chosen as the ZEEKR 009 was voted the 2025 Malaysia Car of the Year Overall Winner, as well as also winning the awards for the MPV xEV and xEV categories. It’s the second time in the event’s 23-year history that a fully electric vehicle has won the overall award, reflecting changing times in the industry.

The first recipient of the book was the General Manager of Zeekr Intelligent Technology (Malaysia), Eddy Lu. Making the presentation was Datuk Dr. Aminar Rashid (third from left), Chairman of The Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii).
Yamin Vong (left), founder of the Malaysia Car of the Year event which has been run annually since 2002, with Eddy Lu, GM of Zeekr Intelligent Technology Malaysia and Datuk Dr. Aminar Rashid, Chairman of MARii.

Helping consumers to choose
“For over two decades, our judging panel has picked the best models each year to help Malaysian car buyers make informed decisions,” said Yamin Vong, who started MCOTY in 2002.

“True to this objective of offering a buying resource to consumers, the book (in PDF form) will be available for free download at www.malaysiacaroftheyear.com in due course,” he added.

Besides documenting the 2025 event and its winners, the book also contains articles from the judges about various aspects of the auto industry during the year, and looking ahead.

Longest running COTY event
Apart from the few years that the event could not be run due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MCOTY has been run annually since 2002, making it the longest running event of its type in Malaysia. Since 2023, it has been organized in partnership with the Malaysia Automotive Robotics and Internet of Things Institute (MARii), an agency under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).
