AXCR victory celebrated with Championship Editions of Mitsubishi Triton

Quick look

  • To commemorate the victory in the 2025 Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR), Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia is offering Championship Editions of the Triton, imported from Thailand.

  • Two versions will be available from March 11, and only 270 units are allocated for the Malaysian market.

While the upcoming Xforce is dominating local news about Mitsubishi Motors, not everyone may want a SUV and there will be some who prefer a tough and capable truck which suits their taste or needs better.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) also has such a product in its range, the Triton which has been among the top-selling trucks over the past 20 years. This year, the Triton (in its 6th generation since beginning as the L200) range gets a special edition to commemorate the model’s victory in the 2025 Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR).

This edition brings rally-inspired engineering and aesthetic enhancements to customers, sharing the excitement of victory with them. The Triton Championship Edition will be available in two versions – Triton Athlete and Triton AT Premium – which will officially go on sale from March 11, 2026.

The two special editions, imported from Thailand, have revised specifications, functional off-road components, and unique styling elements not available with the standard Triton models.

The Triton Athlete Championship Edition is priced at RM169,980, while the Triton AT Premium Championship Edition is set at RM155,980, both prices excluding insurance. Each owner will also receive an exclusive motorsports sticker pack and key fob case cover.

Only 270 units (150 of the Athlete and 120 of the AT Premium) will be available for the Malaysian market, so these will be exclusive Tritons.

The special editions in detail
The Championship Edition Triton Athlete will be available in Jet Black Mica. The special edition projects a premium yet functional presence, balancing everyday utility with enhanced off-road performance for weekend use.

It comes with All-Terrain tyres that are common on serious off-road machines and their chunky treads are not just for aggressive looks. They offer significantly improved traction on loose surfaces, mud, and uneven terrain.

Interior enhancements include a 9-inch infotainment system, replacing the standard unit, plus an All-Round Monitor using a multi-camera system that provides a 360-degree view around the vehicle. Given the length and size of the Triton, this helps when maneuvering in tight urban spaces or along narrow jungle trails. Championship-inspired headrest covers make it clear this is a special Triton.

The second Championship Edition, the Triton AT Premium, offers a balance between a sporty aesthetic and technical durability suitable for both business and lifestyle applications. Finished only in White Diamond with performance-oriented styling cues, this special edition comes with 18-inch black sports rims which provide a stark contrast to the white bodywork and contribute to a more aggressive stance.

It is also fitted with a sports bar mounted over the cargo bed, a front lower bumper garnish for added protection and presence, distinctive rally-themed body decals, and the same Championship headrest covers like those in the Athlete variant.

Triton drivetrain
The latest generation Triton is built upon a fundamental re-engineering of its powertrain and chassis structure, designed to optimize performance and durability under demanding conditions. It is powered by the 4N16 Hyperpower clean diesel 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine which employs common-rail direct injection and variable geometry turbocharging, albeit in different states of tune.

The Triton Athlete’s engine has a 2-stage turbocharger with both a high-pressure and a low-pressure turbocharger working in sequence or independently based on engine speed and load. This enables a substantial maximum output of 204 ps/470 Nm with high torque output available early in the rev range

The Triton AT Premium’s engine has a single turbocharger and while less complex than the 2-stage system, this engine remains highly capable, producing a maximum of 184 ps/430 Nm.

Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission designed to handle high torque loads. Power flows through them to all four wheels via the proven and robust Super Select 4WD-II system (Athlete) or Easy Select 4WD system (AT Premium). The Athlete also Active Yaw Control (AYC), a system developed from Mitsubishi’s rallying experience, that reduces understeer and enhances agility on slippery surfaces.

As standard, the Triton Athlete comes with the comprehensive Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing (MMSS) suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and this is also in the Championship Edition.

All Triton variants come standard with Active Stability and Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, and Hill Descent Control. These are active systems which will be especially useful when driving off-road in difficult conditions.
