Quick look

  • The Mitsubishi Xforce, assembled locally, will be launched in April but bookings can now be made. Two versions will be offered – the Urban for RM110,000 and the Ultimate for another RM10,000 more.

  • This compact SUV enters the crowded SUV B-segment to challenge established rivals like the Honda HR-V. Proton X50 and Perodua Traz.

After a number of years with just the Triton pick-up and XPANDER crossover MPV, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) will soon have a third model – the Mitsubishi Xforce. To be launched in April, the compact crossover will be offered in two versions – Urban with an expected price of RM110,000 and Ultimate to be priced at RM120,000. Like the XPANDER, the Xforce is assembled at HICOM Automotive Manufacturers in Pekan, Pahang.

Rewards for first 1,000 owners
To spark initial momentum, MMM is offering a RM5,000 cash rebate to the first 1,000 customers who book and register a new Xforce. They will also be entered in a lucky draw which has an Xforce Ultimate as the prize. Existing Mitsubishi owners are eligible for an additional RM1,000 rebate in appreciation of their loyalty to the brand which has been in Malaysia since the 1960s.

Joining the crowded B-segment
The Xforce marks Mitsubishi’s entry into the crowded B-segment crossover SUV market. It enters the ring against established rivals like the Honda HR-V and Proton X50, as well as the recently launched Perodua Traz. While many competitors lean toward a ‘sporty car’ form, the Xforce emphasizes rugged capability.

Developed for ASEAN
Being developed primarily for the ASEAN markets, attention has been given to road conditions as well as the flash floods that occur in many places. Automakers with long experience in the region, like Mitsubishi Motors, know ground clearance is important. Thus the Xforce has a generous 222 mm of clearance under the floorpan – currently the greatest gap in its class (and even surpassing some larger SUVs).

Behind the latest version of the brand’s Dynamic Shield front end is the proven 1.5-litre MIVEC 4-cylinder engine, producing 105 ps/141 Nm. The driving wheels are only at the front but to enhance cornering stability, there’s rally-bred Active Yaw Control technology which optimizes braking force between the front wheels to improve cornering stability.

Besides a choice of 3 specialized drive modes – Normal, Gravel and Mud – there is also a segment-first Wet Mode. This is also something that will be welcome by drivers in Malaysia and ASEAN as it helps with grip and stability on wet roads. When active, the Wet Drive Mode changes the way the engine, transmission, and traction control system work.

Adventurous interior image
Stepping inside, the Xforce Ultimate variant elevates the cabin experience with a 12.3-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio system and an 8-inch digital driver’s display. The centre display can be configured with different layouts and one of them has three meters, reminiscent of the meter cluster that was on the dashboard of the original Pajero. Back then, the meters were physical units but on the Xforce, they are digi-graphic images.

A standout feature is the Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium audio system. Co-developed with Yamaha, the 8-speaker setup includes 4 customizable sound profiles and Speed Compensated Volume technology. This adjusts the audio profile based on road noise and even rain intensity.

Practicality remains a core focus, with no less than 23 storage compartments around the cabin. There’s even a centre console cooler box to keep drinks chilled, a feature you usually find in more expensive vehicles. The dual-zone air-conditioning system has a nanoe-X generator which purifies the cabin air to keep it fresh and clean.

Rear passengers aren’t forgotten, either; the Xforce has 8-step reclining seats and generous legroom that rivals larger C-segment vehicles. Behind the seats, the 410-litre  cargo space is accessed via a top-hinged tailgate. Not only is it powered but opening can be done by placing a foot under the bumper. This too is a feature that just 10 years ago was only offered in more expensive models.

Bookings now accepted
Official bookings for the Xforce are accepted at all authorized Mitsubishi showrooms nationwide. Although assembly is already underway, MMM doesn’t want to rush the vehicles out just yet.

Each vehicle will undergo a thorough QC process and immediately after the launch, the first 800 customers will get their Xforce. Incidentally, that’s also the target monthly volume MMM has set for the model.

Watch out for the Xforce
As part of its pre-launch activities, MMM will be sending the Xforce on a nationwide tour with a roving truck. It will be on display at selected locations in Penang, Perak and Johor between February 5 – 15, and in Kuantan, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor between March 1 – 15.

This mobile showcase will offer the public a closer look at the Xforce, provide insights into its features, and allow for on-site registration ahead of the official launch.
