GWM Malaysia reports strong 2025 performance with 177% growth

Quick look

  • GWM Malaysia achieved a 177% year-on-year surge in sales for 2025, driven by the locally assembled Haval H6 HEV.

  • The brand is shifting towards the premium segment with the WEY G9 luxury MPV (launching late January 2026) and the introduction of Hi4 HEV technology.

GWM (Great Wall Motor) was already in the Malaysian market over 10 years ago but back then, its business was managed by a local partner and at ‘arm’s length’. At the end of 2022, it joined other automakers from China to come into the market on its own and started up GWM Malaysia as a marketing and sales subsidiary. Seeing Malaysia as a market not only with much potential but also as a regional hub, GWM has been growing its business rapidly.

Last year, GWM Malaysia surged ahead with a 177% year-on-year growth in commercial performance. This strong performance was achieved mainly in the growing hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) segment, with its HAVAL brand ranking third with a 15.5% market share in 2025. The robust growth was driven primarily by the locally-assembled Haval H6 HEV, which continued to drive the brand’s performance throughout the year, It wass one of the best-selling HEVs in Malaysia, ranking second and taking a 14.9% market share of the segment

The core of growth
GWM Malaysia’s 2025 performance reflects a broader shift in consumer preference towards HEVs that offer a balance of efficiency, performance and usability without the worries of range anxiety. They offer the best of both worlds – some of the benefits of an EV with the advantage of having a combustion engine as well.

Next-generation HEV technology
Building on this momentum, GWM Malaysia is also laying the groundwork for the next phase of its HEV journey with the forthcoming introduction of Hi4, GWM’s next-generation technology for HEVs.

More than a technological upgrade, Hi4 represents the brand’s long-term direction, integrating efficiency, performance and intelligent energy management into a unified hybrid electric ecosystem. As GWM continues to evolve its electrification strategy, Hi4 signals a future-ready approach that will shape the next chapter of electrified mobility for the brand in Malaysia.

Diverse portfolio of models
Besides the Haval H6 HEV, GWM Malaysia maintained a diverse portfolio of models in 2025, catering to different customer needs across electrified and lifestyle-driven segments. The ORA models offer fully electric mobility while the TANK is highly off-road capable.

We are encouraged by this momentum and remain focused on delivering products that meet real-world needs.”

WEY G9 – coming very soon.

He added that the diverse portfolio will further expand with the upcoming launch of the WEY G9 Intelligent Luxury MPV. Scheduled for launch at the end of January, it will mark GWM Malaysia’s next step in premium and intelligent mobility.
